Purpose
The Associate of GBM Internal Control Governance & Controls has responsibility for, and oversight of, the execution of a varied portfolio of controls and processes that, in sum, enable GBM to maintain compliance with key regulatory and bank policy requirements.
Accountabilities
- Manage team of analysts to execute against portfolio of weekly/monthly/annual controls and processes that have both regional and global impact across the GBM organization
- Ensure timely and accurate execution of all controls / processes – escalate effectively to Associate Director, GBM Internal Control (Bogota) in instances where that might not be the case
- Manage exceptions emanating from the book of work to conclusion in collaboration with regional, and global, Internal Control partners
- Serve as point of escalation for any issues identified by the team during their execution of controls/processes; manage all such issues to conclusion
- Produce high quality management reporting (inclusive of KRIs/KPIs where appropriate) for onward global publication
- Assess all controls/processes within the portfolio for prospective improvement and enhancement – assist the Associate Director with the management of any pursuant changes and uplift
- Manage the addition and absorption of additional controls/processes as they arise; work closely with regional and global colleagues to transition such activities in and/or build net new capabilities effectively
- Effectively manage team of direct reports; be an inspiring, empathetic and kind leader
- Work effectively with regional and global colleagues across both Internal Control and the business lines
- Communicate effectively (oral and written) with stakeholders of varying seniority across the various regions/locations where GBM does business
Dimensions
- Global coverage of the GBM business line - GBM contributes ~20% to the total net income of the Scotiabank Group;
- The incumbent is expected to maintain an in-depth knowledge of operational processes throughout the applicable Business Lines and escalate issues promptly that are deemed to be serious, or have broad impact;
- The position may lead multiple initiatives or other activities with tight deadlines
- The incumbent should be able, on his/her own initiative, to resolve issues and also recognize the need to involve his/her supervisor/s and/or Subject Matter Experts when required.
Education / Experience
- University degree in business, finance, other related field;
- Experience in Capital Markets is required
- Experience in internal control, audit, compliance or risk management.
- Experience leading teams is preferred
- Experience with regulatory/risk related efforts is preferred
- Experience managing a team is preferred
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to guide decision making process and facilitate consensus;
- Proven problem solving skills and experience;
- Strong writing skills, experience creating high quality deliverables and projects;
- Ability to effectively communicate with the Business Lines, Supervisors and other stakeholders.
- Excellent command of English (reading, writing and speaking skills).
