Our local water team specializes in water and wastewater treatment, and infrastructure. We have a strong technical and project delivery team that this position will support, and work with our team to deliver projects. Our team in Edmonton has worked on several award-winning projects, regionally and nationally, utilizing the ability to collaborate with regional and international subject matter experts.
Your Opportunity
We are currently looking for an Intermediate Process Mechanical Engineer, specializing in water and wastewater treatment to join our Water group in Edmonton. This team member will get to work on a broad range of water and wastewater treatment projects located regionally, including industrial water treatment, innovative water and wastewater treatment, and exciting and challenging projects. This is a work environment where your abilities will strengthen and grow through a diverse range of projects focused on water and wastewater treatment and process mechanical design.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Lead development of conceptual designs and technology selection.
- Lead water and wastewater process design teams in finalizing preliminary and detailed engineering design packages.
- Preparing conceptual and detailed designs, including drawings and specifications.
- Preparing process and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) and process flow diagrams (PFDs).
- Sizing major process equipment, e.g., pumps, blowers, chemical systems, etc.
- Develop hydraulic calculations for process piping.
- Effectively work with clients to develop water/wastewater characterization and basis of design, alternative evaluation, treatability testing, process definition, and conceptual design for water and wastewater treatment.
- Work with applicable water and wastewater regulations and compliance strategies that maximize operating flexibility and reduce total project costs.
- Lead the start-up and commissioning of water and wastewater systems.
- Ensure effective and efficient communication and collaboration with all disciplines involved in engineering design.
- Help develop and ensure the ongoing success of a high-performance team through mentorship and development.
- Understanding of business principles of consulting and design projects and related project delivery tools and metrics.
- Attend in house and formal training sessions to ensure continuing professional development.
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials:
- Professional Engineer Designation with APEGA, or eligibility for registration with APEGA.
- Proven expertise and advanced knowledge in treatment technologies and recognized as a technical leader.
- Experience leading water and wastewater process design teams in finalizing preliminary and detailed engineering design packages.
- Strong design leadership and client relation building skills with proven capability to lead design teams and mentor staff.
- Strong communication skills including participation in professional societies and authoring professional papers and presentations.
- Proficient in using Engineering design software.
- Experience in the consulting engineering environment and project management experience is an asset.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in civil, chemical or environmental engineering from an accredited post-secondary institution.
- Related graduate degree would be an asset.
- A minimum of 8 years of experience in water and/or wastewater treatment and conveyance related projects.
- Experience in the consulting engineering environment and project management experience is an asset.
