Health and Safety Business Partner, LCL

Job Overview:
As a Health & Safety Business Partner, reporting to the Director, Health & Safety, you will work with leaders and their teams directly to define and implement health and safety initiatives that are aligned with business plans. This role focuses primarily on Strategy (building sustainable safety cultures), Leadership Development (increasing the capabilities of front-line leaders and safety committees), and Regulatory Compliance (managing the end-to-end processes for compliance orders and collaborating with regulatory authorities) within our Business.
Responsibilities:
- Analyze and interpret workplace injury data and work with facility management to identify areas of unacceptable risk and incorporate corrective measures into site-specific action plans.
- Actively promote health and safety critical priorities and collaborate with the client group to identify ways to build and enhance a safety-first mindset.
- Conduct internal health and safety assessments and review facility corrective action plans to ensure that identified risks are eliminated and/or controlled.
- Support facility management in executing and maintaining corporate compliance initiatives.
- Continuously work with front-line leaders to improve their proficiency on occupational health and safety while ensuring alignment with company policies, standards, and best practices.
- Coach and train front-line leaders on how to identify unsafe behaviours, and how to recognize, assess and control hazards.
- Coach, educate and train the Joint Health and Safety Committees as the need arises, and in accordance with Company and legislated standards.
- Provide powered lift truck and counterbalance train-the-trainer sessions to certify peer trainers in retail stores.
- Support facility management with provincial regulatory activities and initiatives to ensure favourable outcomes.

- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with the ability to adapt to change and meet timelines.
Professional Competencies:
- 5 to 7 years’ experience with demonstrated knowledge in occupational health and safety management practices (i.e., post-secondary degree or field experience, or combination of both).
- Certified Registered Safety Profession (CRSP), Canadian Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC) or postgraduate OH&S university/college degree preferred.
- Experience in retail and/or supply chain environments is an asset.
- Education and experience in ergonomics is an asset.
- Sound knowledge of Federal and Provincial Occupational Health & Safety and Workers’ Compensation Acts and Regulations.
- Well organized and ability to balance multiple complex and competing priorities.
- Self-motivated and results orientated.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with MS Office applications.
- Valid provincial driver’s license.
- Ability to travel with overnight stays during the work week.
- Ability to provide 24/7 service to the business as it pertains to managing critical injury situations and/or regulatory stop work situations that result in an operational disruption to the business.
- A positive attitude, desire to learn, and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
