PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
This is a 6 months Co-op position. As a Co-op student with CPKC Police Service (CPKC PS), you will engage in quantitative analysis to support our mandate of enhancing public safety and protecting rail personnel, assets, operations, and information. You will gain practical work experience in a law enforcement environment, and develop skills related to reviewing large data sets and making recommendations based on the trends you identify.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Responsible for the regular review of calls for service data generated by CPKC PS, the identification of trends, and the reporting of those trends to CPKC PS leadership. This will support CPKC PS’ mandate of supporting public safety and allow leadership to make informed deployment decisions for their front-line members.
- Convey key information to leadership in a succinct manner via written reports and quantitative analysis presented via Power BI reports.
- Support quality control for data entered into the CPKC PS’ record management system, help to appropriately tag that data, and conduct in depth reviews of that data to identify key trends.
- Develop systems that streamline analysis of this data for CPKC PS leadership and provide regular updates to leadership.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- 3rd or 4th year in computer science, mathematics, statistics, or related fields from an accredited college or university
- Experience working on data mining and machine learning projects.
- Experience with data cleaning.
- Experience programing in languages including Python, R, and SQL.
- Experience with business intelligence and analytics products, primarily Power BI, and DAX programming.
- Experience with Hexagon CAD/RMS and/or Arc GIS will be considered an asset
- Ability to conduct quantitative analysis on large datasets, to identify key trends, and to deliver meaningful analysis and recommendations based on this analysis.
- Ability to present key findings from large datasets through a variety of methods, including heat mapping and a range of visualization techniques.
- Ability to multi-task, work independently in a small team environment and to respond to regular requests from CPKC PS leadership.
- Ability to work with and review confidential and sensitive materials while maintaining discretion.

Management Conductor Program:
