Purpose Contributes to the overall success of the Global Banking and Markets Onboarding (GBMO) in Singapore by ensuring individual goals, plans, and initiatives are delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted comply governing regulations, internal policies and procedures. Accountability - Works directly with clients and client relationship managers on the timely and accurate onboarding of new-to-bank clients, as well as regular periodic reviews, in accordance to Know Your Client (“KYC”) and Anti-Money Laundering (“AML”) requirements in the Singapore, Hong Kong, and Australia jurisdictions.
- Champions a customer-focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
- Understands how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions. Rapidly triage and escalate complex issues to management for resolution.
- Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values and Code of Conduct, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to, and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
- Champions a high-performance environment and contributes to an inclusive work environment.
- Ensures that KYC documentation standards meet the guidance put in place by Global Banking and Markets, and archived according to Bank and regulatory requirements. Escalate any variances from guidance to management for resolution
- Prepares status reports and case volume metrics for executive management.
- Provides support to internal and external stakeholders where there is client impact arising from regulatory change
- Participates in multi-disciplinary teams to address new business initiatives, technology system enhancement projects, and one-off projects as required.
- Stays informed of changes in requisite regulatory onboarding matters, including but not limited to:
- KYC and AML regulations
- Tax regulations such as the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (“FATCA”), and Common Reporting Standards (“CRS”)
- OTC Trade Reporting-related regulations such as Dodd-Frank, European Markets Infrastructure Regulation (“EMIR”), Canadian and Hong Kong Trade Reporting
- Volker Rule
- Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (MiFID)
- Margin regulations
Experience/Other Information - 5 - 7 years direct industry experience in the capital markets, corporate banking, and investment banking in wholesale banking. An undergraduate degree in Finance, Business, Economics, or a related discipline is required.
- The incumbent must exhibit expertise with current regulatory frameworks impacting Capital Markets client onboarding. Expertise with emerging regulatory frameworks is preferable.
- The incumbent must be detail-oriented and possess sufficient judgment to detect, solve, and escalate problems efficiently and effectively.
- Excellent oral/written communication, relationship management, and time management skills are a must.
- A sound understanding of the capital markets/corporate banking business is desired, as is a client-centric approach to the role.
- Must be able to operate effectively within a stressful environment with changing priorities and tight time frames which are closely scrutinized by Senior/Executive Management.
- Must have Excel experience and be comfortable working with VLOOKUPs and data sorting and filtering. Ability to work with macros is a plus.
