Job Summary:
The Communications Assistant is responsible for development and maintenance of communication and marketing initiatives. This can include but is not limited to social media management and content creation; representing the program at orientation and recruitment fairs and events, event planning; website management; creation of video, photography and graphic design, presentations; internal and external promotions, print publications. They provide support in print and electronic media technologies to promote marketing and communication for a program or department.
Accountabilities:

Contribute to internal communications projects, including content for websites, e-newsletters, print publications, video production.

Assist program/department staff to plan, coordinate, and implement various communication projects.

Assist in the research, development and maintenance of communication content.

Collect, draft and write content utilizing provided templates for communication related activities.

Compile data detailing the use of communication outlets, and provide suggestions for improvements based on observations.

Contribute to the creation of graphics, photos, or video assets for use in web projects and on social media.

Edit basic HTML and CSS to help maintain and improve web content quality and accessibility.

Assist in the development of training materials for other staff and faculty.
Qualifications:
Education: Current McMaster student or recent graduate.
Experience: Experience working and programming various Web and Social Media platforms.
Assets:

Experience and knowledge of all major social media and content management platforms including but not limited to: LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Reddit, WordPress.

Graphic design experience would be considered a strong asset.

Experience collecting and editing film.

Familiarity with the McMaster community, especially with the INSPIRE Office of Flexible Learning, INSPIRE courses, and interdisciplinary minors.

Proficiency and accuracy using Microsoft Office, Outlook, Excel, Word, Power Point, Windows 7.

Up to date with social media trends and digital marketing campaigns.

Experience with marketing and illustration programs such as Canva, Adobe Illustrator and others.

Familiarity with the use of current communication technologies such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams.

Strong written abilities.

Adaptable and flexible to changing needs of the department and work priorities.

Detail oriented with proven project management and time management skills. Results oriented, can work independently to complete projects and tasks in a timely manner.

Comfortable working in a team environment with other Communications Assistant staff and with the INSPIRE Office administration.
