The Associate Financial Consultant (AFC) assists MD’s physician clients and their families in achieving their personal financial goals. The AFC will work closely with a team of Advisors and Specialists to gain a broad understanding of MD’s value proposition for our clients and hone their skills providing an exceptional client experience. By developing a solid knowledge of all of MD’s products and services in the context of comprehensive financial planning, the AFC will support clients in achieving their financial goals while contributing to overall business growth targets through acquisition and referrals. In this role, they will continue to expand their knowledge of all lines of business at MD and the client service approach centering around financial planning and advice. The AFC is responsible for supporting the team in retaining and growing market share in the community in which they operate, by actively prospecting and engaging in activities/behaviors that lead to success. They will gain exposure to clients at various stages of the physician life cycle. They will develop new opportunities to prospect and grow the client base, while ensuring retention of clients through relationship building and developing comprehensive financial plans.
Is this role right for you? In this role you will:
- Champion a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
- Complete financial planning, with Senior Financial Consultant oversight, in the areas of risk management, estate planning, liability management, cashflow/budgeting, education funding, tax, retirement planning, investment management, practice management and goal setting
- Participate in the preparation of comprehensive financial plans and specific investment strategies based on MD Management developed and managed optimal portfolio ranges
- Participate in client meeting preparation, drafting post meeting notes and identifying next opportunities, gathering and inputting financial data resulting from discovery conversations.
- Understand and comply with all industry regulations and MD's program and process requirements
- Respond to client questions, inquiries and obtain support from a Senior Advisor with solutions where needed.
- Help promote/advocate MD products and services with clients and prospects, which involves engaging our “disengaged” clients.
- Participate in the development and delivery of financial planning seminars and information meetings throughout the region to inform clients about new strategies, legislative changes and MD Management's programs
- Increase visibility of products and services through contact with centers of influence
- Keep current on issues affecting the financial affairs of clients, including a general knowledge of income tax, investment trends and products, as well as any other issues impacting clients
- Provide input to marketing and management concerning potential new products and services
- Travel within established geographic area
- Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
- Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

The Must Haves:
- University degree in business, commerce or a degree related to practice of financial planning
- CIRO licensed as a Registered Representative
- Completion of the Group Annuity Sector (PQPAV) (Quebec offices only); Life License (LLQP) (all other provinces), and the willingness to complete other regulatory requirements
- Previous lending experience will be considered an asset
- Good working knowledge of Financial Planning and financial services
- Good product knowledge
- A demonstrated track record of above average client service in a financial services or related environment
- Minimum of 1-2 years experience within the financial services industry
