As a Security Systems Technician, you’ll utilize your expertise and knowledge of building security systems to contribute to the ongoing efforts of Toronto Community Housing to improve the neighborhoods and lives of residents of Toronto.
The Security Systems Technician is responsible for performing installations, preventative and service maintenance for building security systems. In addition, the incumbent in this role participates in capital projects by completing building security-systems-related aspects of the project within the scope of this role’s responsibilities.
Building security systems falling within this role’s responsibility are video surveillance and building access systems.

What you’ll do
- Replace equipment and programs building security systems
- Diagnoses, troubleshoots, repairs and resolves building security system issues. Escalates issues, where required
- Monitors, inspects and tests building security systems to ensure ongoing effectiveness. Identifies and communicates issues, and provides and executes suggestions for solutions (i.e. repair or replace, etc.) upon approval
- Collaborates with internal (i.e. information technology staff, etc.) and external (i.e. service providers) parties in the completion of on-demand preventative and service maintenance work orders as well as capital projects pertaining to building security systems
- Performs preventative and service maintenance and participates in capital projects. Completes work orders for on-demand preventative and service maintenance as well as capital projects on a timely basis. Ensures efficient allocation of time making use of resources (i.e. phone/radio service) to ensure travel between work orders is managed effectively
- Assists in review of and provides feedback about service providers’ work
- Other clerical duties as assigned
What you’ll need
- Minimum high school diploma; Post-secondary education in the field of electrical/ engineering/electronics is preferred
- Minimum of three (3) years of progressive experience in the field of electronic security including the installation and maintenance of intrusion detection, access control, and video surveillance systems; CANASA Alarm Technician Course (ATC) and a comprehensive knowledge (both at hardware and software levels) of products such as DSC PowerSeries Neo, March Networks, AXIS, RBH, and Mircom are preferred
- Familiar with electronic security system design process including infrastructure design, product selection, and system integration
- Ability to read, interpret and apply building security systems-related documentations including but not limited to manuals, blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and specifications
- Familiar with Ontario Building Code, Ontario Electrical Safety Code, and Ontario Fire Code
- Knowledge of Microsoft Suite and computer literacy; knowledge of Microsoft Visio and AutoCAD is an asset
- Good computer operation knowledge and skills; CompTIA A+ is an asset
- Proven organizational and time management skills including but not limited to ability to prioritize and effectively complete responsibilities for multiple projects on a timely basis
- Ability to work independently and in a diverse team environment
- Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
- Possess exceptional customer service, written & Oral communication, and interpersonal skills
- Self-motivated, positive, and professional attitude
- Ability to learn and apply new knowledge quickly
- Ability to climb ladders above 4 feet up to 15 feet
- Ability to lift objects such as equipment and tools, climb ladders and scaffolding as necessary
- A Valid Full G series driver’s license and access to a vehicle are required
