PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
This permanent position was created to support U.S. and Mexico BPC system activities now performed centrally in Calgary. The ideal candidate is a Finance professional experienced in supporting SAP BPC/SAC processes or a SAP power/superuser who wants a more systems focused role.
This position involves working as part of a team committed to delivering actionable business insights on CPKC’s performance by driving improvements in finance systems processes and reports. The successful candidate will be responsible for sustaining data integrity including financial master data, functionality and effectiveness of those systems as well as system processes and data loads for key finance systems and models. This role also delivers cross-functional system related improvements for finance systems and reports. The Specialist reports to the Manager, Finance Systems and Reporting as part of the Finance Department.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Executes Finance systems processes in SAP BPC/SAC (Financial Planning and Consolidations) to support month-end close, and annual budget and monthly forecasting activities including ETL (extract, transform and load) activities, maintaining and building specific reporting templates, financial master data maintenance, running system scripts, etc.
- Drives cross-functional initiatives with Finance business partners and Information Services to improve data transparency for analysis and insights
- Provides system related advisory and troubleshooting support, and develops creative solutions for implementation including analysis of business requirements
- Partners with Information Services and supports Finance users to identify root cause for Finance system errors and failures
- Financial master data lifecycle maintenance
- Correlates data sources to provide fit-for-purpose reporting and analytics, including requirements gathering, prototyping, user validation, and sustainment
- Serves as Finance representative and collaborates with business subject matter experts to qualify and gather business requirements, assess existing technology configuration, input on system/process/configuration design, support system test, and user acceptance testing
- Contributes to the department's program to ensure Finance users can effectively and efficiently use the various systems available to Finance, including providing guidance, workshops and creating training content
- Supports other finance initiatives as required including supporting system projects, integration work supporting the KCS acquisition, and future migration to SAP S/4 HANA and SAC reporting
- Seeks to expand areas of subject matter expertise and shares knowledge with colleagues and other Finance/IS teams
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Undergraduate degree in Commerce, Accounting, Finance, or other relevant fields (designated or pursuing CPA designation is preferred)
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in financial or operations accounting, financial planning and/or supporting Finance using SAP BPC and SAP SAC or similar applications
- Advanced knowledge of Excel (pivot tables, advanced formulas, formatting, macros, modelling)
- Demonstrated experience or training with BI tools such as Power BI, Excel VBA, Qlik, SAP S4 HANA or similar experience including system implementations
- Effective relationship builder with superior customer service and communication skills (both verbal and written)
- Demonstrated experience executing continual process improvements
- Demonstrated intellectual curiosity to identify root causes and ability to work collaboratively toward a common solution able to work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders including Finance and Information Services
- Applies critical thinking and creativity to find unique solutions to complex issues
- Self-motivated, self-starter who can work independently and take initiative to drive change with limited oversight
- Strong attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills
- Able to provide guidance and training to end user groups of disparate skill and knowledge levels
