The Centre for Community Partnerships and Experiential Learning requires a part-time welding professor to teach in the Dual Credit and Early College Graduation Programs. These programs, operated in partnership with local school boards, allow high school students to earn tuition-free college credits as part of their high school education.
Under the direction of the Associate Dean, Community Partnerships and learning, professors in the Dual Credit and Early College Graduation Programs are responsible for providing academic leadership and for developing an effective learning environment using a blended model of presentation in collaboration with high school teachers.
What you’ll be doing:
The duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following:
- Teaching theory and practical application components.
- Creating a positive and innovative student-centered learning environment in both the classroom and laboratory settings.
- Using a variety of teaching strategies most appropriate for the curriculum and student population.
- Using a variety of techniques to evaluate student achievement of learning outcomes.
- Collaborating with high school teachers and managing the educational environment to facilitate an optimal learning experience and student success.
- Evaluating, revising and developing learning resources within the program.
- Enhancing educational delivery and experiences through the use of technology to facilitate student learning.
- Applying college values and philosophy to work activities and interaction with others.
- Using the college’s eLearning system to present curriculum, testing and online activities.
- Ensuring students’ adherence to health and safety protocols, including but not limited to proper use of personal protective equipment.
Other duties as assigned.
What you’ll bring to the role:
- A Certificate of Qualification, Red Seal, as a Welder (456A).
- A minimum of five years’ experience as a Certified Tradesperson.
- Related teaching experience, preferably in a Post-Secondary, high school, or apprenticeship setting.
- Learner-centred approach and to assist in the development and application of alternate delivery methods.
- Demonstrated commitment and understanding of human rights, equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility.
- The ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse students, employees, and communities.
