Celebrating excellence in
2SLGBTQIA+ workplace inclusion across Canada

Pride at Work Canada’s CHANGEMAKERS is a multimedia digital campaign that aims to recognize 15 people championing 2SLGBTQIA+ inclusion in the corporate, public service, and non-profit sectors across Canada as part of the organization’s 15th Anniversary. CHANGEMAKERS celebrates the achievements of these incredible individuals (and consequently their organizations) who have made a significant impact in fostering and leading diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace and beyond.

By recognizing these changemakers, we amplify their voices and spotlight their crucial contributions to a more inclusive and diverse leadership landscape, directly benefiting 2SLGBTQIA+ professionals in Canada. Our one-time CHANGEMAKERS appreciation marks the end of our 15th-anniversary celebrations, and each selected individual will receive a cash prize with a special certificate and be part of a digital campaign featuring their profile and voice.

Our nomination process is open from January 15, 2024 to March 17, 2024 to everyone who would like to nominate a friend or colleague or themselves as a DEI champion, and the 15 names will be announced on May 17, 2024, marking the beginning of our campaign during the Pride season. The CHANGEMAKERS selection criteria are inspired by the UN LGBTI Standards for Business, serving as a framework that allows Pride at Work Canada to showcase how change can be achieved in various areas – Community, Human Rights, Workplace, and Marketplace.

CHANGEMAKERS wants to share diverse voices from coast to coast to coast and their impacts on the 2SLGBTQIA+ inclusion movement, inspiring others to take concrete action to create spaces where Two-Spirit, queer and trans people can thrive and belong. Although we celebrate individuals, we want to showcase their collective and collaborative work as they lead initiatives to strengthen our communities regionally and nationally. Join us in honouring their achievements and inspiring others to follow their path for a transformative future.

Eligibility

CHANGEMAKERS is open to those who have made significant strides in fostering 2SLGBTQIA+ inclusion in their workplaces. Nominees must live in Canada, be 18 years old or over, and identify as Two-Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Queer, Intersex, Asexual, and all members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community who are not explicitly recognized in the acronym. They also need to either be employed/volunteering or nominated by one of Pride at Work Canada’s current Proud Partners or Community Partners.

Pride at Work Canada recognizes the importance of our allies for advancing 2SLGBTQIA+ inclusion; however, individuals who do not identify as 2SLGBTQIA+ but act in allyship of the Two-Spirit, queer and trans communities are ineligible. CHANGEMAKERS wants to feature Two-Spirit, queer and trans professionals and leaders, uplifting and amplifying the work of lesser-known changemakers on a national scale.

All nominees must agree with the rules of our digital campaign and have clear consent for the usage of their images and information. Please visit our CHANGEMAKERS Terms of Reference to access all details related to eligibility, nomination process and more.

Selection & Timeline

The CHANGEMAKERS selection criteria are inspired by the UN LGBTI Standards for Business, serving as a framework that allows Pride at Work Canada to showcase how change can be achieved in various areas – Community, Human Rights, Workplace, and Marketplace.

Pride at Work Canada wants to ensure that the CHANGEMAKERS’ stories and achievements inspire many others to commit themselves to creating positive impacts in their workplaces and communities.

Our CHANGEMAKERS Selection committee will carefully analyze all nominations, highlighting the nominee’s contributions and achievements in promoting 2SLGBTQIA+ inclusion. They will also consider information about those who challenge discrimination and inequities affecting Two-Spirit, queer and trans communities and professionals in Canada.

The nomination period will be open from January 15, 2024 to March 17, 2024, and the selection committee will select the 15 names in March-April. On May 17, 2024, we will announce the CHANGEMAKERS, and they will be featured during our 2024 ProPride events.

CHANGEMAKERS
FAQ
Can I nominate multiple people from the same organization?

CHANGEMAKERS is a multimedia campaign where people can nominate as many changemakers as they admire, from the same organization or from different ones. We might receive duplications because of the amazing work of our 2SLGBTQIA+ community members or self-nomination. All of them are valid and will be analyzed by our CHANGEMAKERS Selection Committee.

If I have a nominee who is not based in Canada, can I still nominate them?

We want to amplify the work done in Canada by our communities. We appreciate and recognize the dedication of people abroad and how their work contributes to a more inclusive country and world. However, only nominees living in Canada will be considered, respecting the other eligibility criteria.

Where can I access the CHANGEMAKERS Terms of Reference?

Pride a Work Canada values transparency above anything else. Our Terms of Reference and other criteria details are available for everyone to understand our CHANGEMAKERS campaign. If you have any questions about this celebratory recognition or need accessibility support, please contact Connor Pion at connor.pion@prideatwork.ca.

Is there an age limit to participate in the CHANGEMAKERS?

CHANGEMAKERS is open to everyone 18 years of age or older, living in Canada, and who identify as Two-Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Queer, Intersex, Asexual, and all members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community who are not explicitly recognized in the acronym. There is no age limit for nominations, respecting being older than 18 years of age. They can be volunteering, working, retired, self-employed or seeking employment during the whole period of nomination, announcement and campaign.

Do I need to submit all files and information in the nomination form?

Yes, all files and indispensable information must be provided in the application form. Not all are required, like social media handles. However, we ask for all crucial details and files to support the nomination and evaluation processes and the work for the CHANGEMAKERS campaign starting on May 17, 2024.

Do I need consent in advance from my friend, colleague or someone I admire to nominate them?

Because they are being nominated for a digital campaign, your nominee has to agree with our terms and conditions, mainly to grant permission to Pride at Work Canada to use their name, photograph, likeness, and voice in any manner and in all media now or hereafter known, without compensation of any kind. When you fill out the nomination form, you will confirm that they consent to the usage of their image and name in our CHANGEMAKERS campaign. The same image rights grant is valid for self-nomination. For more details, visit our Terms of Reference, including our waiver & release agreement for publicity purposes.

In the 2SLGBTQIA+ acronym, the letter A could be for Ally. Could I nominate one inspiring ally for the CHANGEMAKERS?

Pride at Work Canada seeks to create space and opportunities for 2SLGBTQIA+ communities to thrive where they are and make connections with one another. The goal of CHANGEMAKERS is to celebrate the excellence of our Two-Spirit, queer and trans people, and allies are ineligible. Despite the vital contributions from our allies and our appreciation for having them walk this inclusion journey with us, many times, the best support comes in the form of leaving space for 2SLGBTQIA+ people to celebrate and connect around their shared identities and lived experiences.

What should I do if I would like to withdraw my nomination or nominee?

You can withdraw your nomination or nominee without further explanation at any time before April 30, 2024. For that, you have to send a message to Connor Pion at connor.pion@prideatwork.ca asking to be disregarded from the CHANGEMAKERS selection process.
