We're searching for a Vice President, Delegated Underwriting Authority. Are you searching for new possibilities?

Westland Insurance Group Ltd. is growing and we're looking for a bold, strategic, and influential leader to define the future of delegated authority in Canada as our Vice President, Delegated Underwriting Authority (Hybrid). With a clear mandate to expand a mature and high-performing portfolio, this role will spearhead the development and execution of Westland's 5-year Delegated Underwriting Authority roadmap and build a formal, sustainable capacity partner strategy that positions Westland as the broker of choice for delegated authority in Canada. This position is based out of our Surrey, BC head office, with travel as required.

Expected Compensation: The expected hiring range for this role is $210,000 to $250,000 based on a 35-hour work week. Actual offered salary will depend on the successful candidate's qualifications and experience, as well as market conditions for the role, and internal equity.

Why we'll love you:
  • 15+ years of insurance industry experience, including at least 5 years in senior leadership
  • 5+ years of technical experience within an insurance carrier (Underwriting, Product, Claims, Actuarial, Reinsurance, etc.)
  • Deep understanding of insurance financials, portfolio dynamics, and the delegated authority business model
  • Demonstrated success leading complex, cross-functional strategic initiatives
  • Exceptional relationship-building skills with the ability to influence, negotiate, and collaborate at the executive level
  • Advanced analytical and data-driven decision-making skills
  • Strong communication and presentation abilities, including experience reporting to senior and executive leadership
  • Proven ability to lead teams through change, ambiguity, and organizational transformation
  • High degree of professional integrity, judgment, and business acumen
  • Post-secondary education, preferably in Business or a related field
  • CIP designation (or equivalent)


Once here, you'll:
  • Lead the development and execution of Westland's 5-year Delegated Underwriting Authority roadmap, ensuring alignment with enterprise strategy and growth priorities.
  • Build and maintain senior-level capacity partner relationships, leading contract negotiations and establishing a scalable, sustainable partner strategy.
  • Oversee the performance, governance, and optimization of delegated authority agreements, ensuring delivery of premium, profitability, and portfolio targets.
  • Identify and execute new delegated authority opportunities in collaboration with underwriting, pricing, sales, and data & analytics teams.
  • Leverage data to monitor, interpret, and communicate portfolio performance, ensuring the right reporting, pricing, and analytics tools are in place.
  • Partner with IT and operational leaders to support technology solutions and ensure internal resources scale with portfolio growth and complexity.
  • Manage the Delegated Authority P&L and provide clear, strategic updates to senior leadership.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
