Course Name/Number: Stats 3ST3 - Actuarial Models in Non-Life Insurance

 

Term: Winter Term, January 5, 2026 - April 7, 2026

Class Times: Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 3:30pm-4:20pm

 

Exam Period: April 9-22, 2026

 

Wage Rate*: As per schedule “A” of the CUPE, Local 3906, Unit 2 Collective Agreement, the Sessional Faculty rate is $8922.68 for 3 units.

 

Course Description: Interpolation and approximation, numerical differentiation and integration, numerical methods for ODEs: initial-value and boundary-value problems, finite-difference methods for PDEs, selected advanced numerical methods.

 

Required Qualifications: MSc and/or PhD in Statistics or related field and classroom experience with the curriculum. Selection will be based on seniority, academic qualifications, communication skills, teaching competence, ability to perform the various duties of the Appointment, and previous academic employment experience (these criteria are not listed in order of priority).

*Supplemented Fees- 15.02(a) The employee may be eligible to receive supplemented fees in accordance with Schedule C of the Collective Agreement.  The actual rate of pay when in excess of the base rate of pay is deemed to include any supplemented fees owing, to the extent of the excess amount.  If the actual rate of pay is less than the sum of the base rate of pay and the supplemented fees owing, then the employee shall receive the difference.
