Position Summary:
Reporting to the Manager of Security Services the incumbent is responsible for the coordination and operation of all security systems and equipment within Security Services. This includes but is not limited to both software and hardware applications with respect to access control systems, key control management systems, surveillance systems, emergency Code Blue phones, and emergency applications including mass notification, and intrusion alarms.
The incumbent will be required to assess and respond to operational issues and act as security technology and infrastructure adviser to the Seneca community; ensuring compliance and applying knowledge of applicable legislation, regulations, codes, and standards. are operating efficiently, safely, and in compliance with all pertinent legislative codes and standards. The incumbent will work with departmental coordinators to address Security concerns regarding life safety technology and solutions for the integration of software and devices.
The team currently follows a hybrid work model, involving on-campus presence for multiple days each week. This might change depending on operational needs. Frequent travel to support all main campuses will be required.
Responsibilities:
Security Services’ equipment/system infrastructure
- Identifies, assesses, and coordinates installation/maintenance for security systems and equipment such as cameras, access control, and intrusion alarms. This involves the coordination of efforts between internal departments, project managers, and external vendors.
- Administers access control to staff and students who have the appropriate authorization and approval provided for access and defined areas; liaises with appropriate stakeholders regarding access privileges and departmental authorizations.
- Conducts risk and threat assessments with Cybersecurity stakeholders to ensure that devices are meeting standards and software updates are applied accordingly.
- Coordinates time-limited access privileges and cards for issuance to part-time, sessional staff, and external contractors.
- Assigns security coordinators verification of hardware/system setup on a daily/weekly basis. Assign data inputting and analysis to Security coordinators to ensure information is completed based on the needs of the department/College and verify their work to ensure accuracy and completion.
- Works with ITS department to resolve technical issues related to security platforms (access control, VMS, Code Blue phones) and access information.
- Monitors security system users, including the onboarding and exit of contingency workers, and establishes and develops access control user profiles, levels, and schedules.
- Works closely with Facilities Management and ITS on security systems-related projects such as camera surveillance, card access control installations, emergency Code Blue phone service, and maintenance. Ensures that the security standards are met and appropriate decommission is completed to close out projects.
Security platforms monitoring
- Ensures the Security Systems standards are up to date with current industry trends and are aligned with Seneca's direction and relevant to the future.
- Maintains records of device installation dates, warranty, lifespan, and service dates to determine if equipment needs to be replaced or upgraded for return on investment under Seneca procurement policies.
- Ensures appropriate preventative maintenance (including regular testing protocols and backup log procedures) and oversees emergency repairs of security platform servers and electronic access panels and controllers.
- Obtains quotations from external security equipment vendors as required, participates and assists in the RFP/RFQ vendor selection processes, and ensures the execution and implementation of that install.
- Responsible for overseeing external contractors who are servicing and/or installing Security Services’ security systems.
Security Platforms maintenance and investigation
- Investigates all reports, videos, and access control as it relates to crime/incidents for all campuses.
- Reviews and monitors confidential reports relative to camera surveillance, door access, and any alarm systems data as required.
- Updates policies, procedures, and manuals as they relate to security systems within the Security Services. This includes ensuring policies and procedures, comply with privacy laws, Controlled Substances Act, codes, and legislative requirements about video surveillance, investigation documentation, and records retention.
Train on security systems and hardware
- Ensures Security staff ( including external agencies) is provided training and information regarding camera surveillance, access control issues, upgrades, hardware updates, etc.
- Develops and maintains training plans and procedures as required for security systems

Education
- Minimum two (2) year diploma in Computer networking Studies, IT Security, Systems Analysis, or related discipline.
- Certification in Security Systems including Kantech, Lenel, or Milestone systems is preferred.
Experience
- Minimum three (3) years of experience in operating and maintaining security systems is required.
- Demonstrated project management and risk assessment experience in security is required.
- Experience working in a large facility dealing with multiple types of technology for security services.
- Experience in the physical installation and reading technical drawings of security systems is an asset.
Skills
- Demonstrated experience and in-depth knowledge of security hardware and software systems including video surveillance, intrusion, and distress systems.
- Demonstrated expertise in security systems and intrusion alarm products including Lenel, Milestone, and Code Blue product lines.
- Thorough knowledge of safety and security industry standards and practices, emergency management principles, fire prevention, and life safety codes.
- Experience in team facilitation, instruction, or training.
- Well-developed communication and relationship-building skills to coordinate with internal and external stakeholders.
