Now Hiring: Senior Advisor, Regulatory Affairs
Reporting to the Director, Strategy and Regulatory Outreach, the Senior Advisor, Regulatory Affairs (the “Advisor”) plays a key support role in the Division. The Advisor has an active role in the rule-making and policy development function of the Division, and participates in the development and implementation of the regulatory outreach program with the Bourse’s Participants. The Advisor also coordinates the Division’s regulatory initiatives based on strategic priorities set by the Director.
Key Accountabilities:
Coordinates rules development and amendments initiatives of the Bourse and the Division, and collaborates with stakeholders both internal and external;
Manages the development of new rules and amendments of rules on market integrity, coordinates with the Division’s other services and is responsible for conducting research, assessments and drafting the related circulars and analysis;
Responds to requests from internal and external stakeholders concerning the regulations governing trading of the Bourse’s derivatives;
Proposes content for the publication of guidelines and FAQs based on intel and feedback collected;
Drafts guidelines, FAQs, educational documents for training purposes or similar documents by collaborating with other services of the Division;
Responsible for maintaining up-to-date the Approved Persons’ training materials and Division’s public information resources, such as FAQ, guidelines and website;
Organizes information sessions for Participants;
Provides the Director with support in order to keep Participants informed of the Bourse’s initiatives and of any regulatory impacts;
Assists Participants and clients on a case-by-case basis;
Ensures constant communication with the Division’s other services to ascertain consistency in responses to inquiries and interpretations of rules;
Assists in various analysis, research and statistics related to derivatives, specifically for the Bourse’s products and markets and their regulation;
At the request of the Director, participates in any working group in which the Division has an interest;
Carries out any other duties that may be assigned, given the role.
Must Have:
University degree in the relevant field (Law, Finance, Economics or other fields pertinent to this role);
Minimum of seven (7) years of relevant experience;
Experience in market regulation, developing rules or policy decisions or similar functions;
Knowledge of the financial markets, derivative instruments and the applicable regulations;
Experience in rules development, or relevant exposure to the rules making process, is an asset;
Well-versed in drafting analysis (technical, legal), reports, memos and similar documents;
Excellent research, analytical skills and ability to synthesize information;
Excellent priority management skills, keen sense of work planning and organization;
Ability to establish effective interpersonal relations;
Well-honed communication and presentation skills, in English and French, both oral and written (contacts and collaboration with clients and colleagues English only) ;
Autonomy and initiative;
Tolerance for ambiguity;
Professional rigour;
Political acumen;
Sense of ethics and integrity;
Nice to Have:
Professional designation or a Master degree in the relevant field is an asset, (ex. LLB, LLM, CFA, member with a provincial bar association, MBA);
Industry courses, such as Canadian Securities Course and Derivatives Fundamentals Course, or other qualifications are an asset.
