What you’ll be doing:
Communications & Marketing Strategy
- Assist in the development of campaigns that align with the IDEAWORKS’ strategy to reach industrial and community partners for applied research projects.
- Conduct and analyze research and apply it to the strategic development of campaigns.
- Collaborate with the IDEAWORKS Business Development team to develop marketing plans.
- Coordinate planning and execution of marketing campaigns to targeted audiences.
Content /Copywriting
- Prepare project summaries of IDEAWORKS research projects.
- Prepare case studies of IDEAWORKS research projects.
- Assist internal clients with the development of white papers.
- Source content from various internal departments when required.
- Develop and edit marketing copy related to IDEAWORKS collateral, social media posts, newsletters/e-blast and advertising (digital and print).
- Ensure marketing messages align across all advertising platforms.
- Collaborate with various internal departments to provide content where required.
Events Planning and Implementation
- Coordinate, plan, develop, implement, monitors and evaluate all IDEAWORKS research events, webinars, open houses and showcase events, including virtual, in-person and hybrid initiatives.
- Generate event specific budgets, authorizes all purchase orders and prepares detailed information for invoices and charges back for events held by IDEAWOKRS, as well as arranges for paid services and materials needed for successful execution of events, including payroll for part-time and contract employees and students, rental companies, food services and entertainment.
- Plan and coordinate, the activities of a team of college employees (working with property services, catering, parking, security, marketing, international and academic areas) internal and external suppliers, and students to provide a high quality of service and implement professional events from concept to completion, ensuring a myriad of related details are effectively and appropriately achieved.
- Work within the constraints of college policies and procedures, as well as planning budgets (revenue and expenses planning) the incumbent will follow protocols for events in conjunction with other internal College departments, schools, student government and contract clients, as well as external partners (VIPs, Government, Private and Public Sectors), to ensure effective staging of events and appropriateness of events to the promotion of Mohawk’s overall image. The incumbent ensures that all events are AODA compliant by requesting and arranging closed captioning, sign language interpreters etc., when required.
- Work closely with public affairs and marketing, the incumbent coordinates events communications plan and produces promotional material to attract the widest relevant audience to support and promote events, e.g. print and electronic invitations, (invitation lists, guest lists, RSVP’s web announcements and publicity, LinkedIn and Twitter promotions, events scripts, and internal and external signage and security.
- Provide on-site supervision at all IDEAWORKS events.
- Prepare post-event evaluations to ensure appropriate record keeping for event statistics to assist with future event planning.
Digital content
- Align digital media goals to overall marketing strategies, with a particular focus on establishing IDEAWORKS credibility and recruiting partners for applied research projects.
- On the IDEAWORKS site, maintain existing content and develop new content based on guidance for the IDEAWORKS Business Development team.
- Collaborate with the marketing department on the development and delivery of wireframes, mockups and editorial content for the IDEAWORKS website.
- Monitor and identify relevant external content for IDEAWORKS audience (internal and external) to share via the IDEAWORKS website, social media and Mohawk News Desk.
- Continue the development of IDEAWORKS’ profile in the social media space including but not limited to Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
- Lead the development, implementation and maintenance of a content calendar.
- Contribute to social media content by supplying or sourcing photos and videos where necessary and provide edits to images and videos where required for use on the website, social media and other digital platforms.
- Liaise with internal clients on the development, management and reporting of paid social media initiatives.
- Align digital media goals to overall marketing strategies, with a particular focus on establishing IDEAWORKS credibility and recruiting partners for applied research projects.
- Collaborate with other internal social media contributors to discuss opportunities and improvements to accounts across the college.
- Assist in social media crisis management and simulation.
Analytics and Reporting
- Support the management and development of tracking, reporting, analysis and optimization of all media plans/buys across all channels including print, digital, and social.
- Liaise with internal clients to define key success metrics.
- Lead the management and development of website and social media tracking, reporting, analysis and optimization.
Media Relations
- Support the writing of press releases and news stories for internal and external platforms.
- Support the development of media pitches for appropriate trade publications and mainstream outlets with guidance from the Manager of Business Development.
- Develop and maintain relationships with publishers and editors to increase success of pitches.
Other duties as assigned, but not limited to:
- Identify new tools and applications to assist department in effective delivery of marketing campaigns.
- Research, suggest and attend relevant external conferences and events for IDEAWORKS team.
- Accompany IDEAWORKS staff to externally-hosted conferences and meetings to complete event set up as required.
- Apply Mohawk Brand guidelines and policies to further the IDEAWORKS brand in and around the online community.
- Act as a Mohawk College brand ambassador.
- Remain current on upcoming events, institutional priorities, and sensitivities to ensure all are reflected appropriately in our communications.
What you’ll bring to the role:
- 3 year diploma/degree or equivalent in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Advertising, Social Media.
- Minimum work 2 years experience.
- Hands-on experience in B2B digital marketing and advertising strategy, social media community management, analytics, tracking and measurement.
- High degree of technical expertise in the use of digital marketing tools and applications (for example, Hootsuite, Sprout Social, X, YouTube, Google Business, LinkedIn, Google AdWords/Analytics).
- Proven experience as an admin on LinkedIn and X business pages including managing multiple paid campaigns and accounts.
- Proven experience in digital campaign development (for e.g. search, display, retargeting).
- Proven expertise in digital and hybrid event planning.
- Expertise in copywriting and content development. SEO experience considered an asset.
- Photoshop/InDesign experience, video editing skills are also an asset.
- Proven ability/experience to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Financial acumen.
- Experience in researching and recommending new technologies with forecasted and planned budget resources.
- Demonstrated commitment and understanding of human rights, equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility.
- The ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse students, employees, and communities.
