The Individual Learning Module (ILM) business, managed through a partnership of NAIT and SAIT, provides innovative and trusted learning resources to support trades and apprenticeship training, across Canada. With a reputation for quality and alignment to institutional and industry needs, ILM products continue to play a vital role in advancing learning outcomes and supporting educational excellence.
Reporting to the ILM Senior Manager, the Project Manager is responsible for planning, leading, and coordinating a portfolio of curriculum development projects across all phases of the ILM content development lifecycle: Planning, Development, Publishing, and Quality Assurance. This role provides project leadership, ensures the successful execution of project goals, and drives consistency in project management practices across the ILM team.
The Project Manager oversees a portfolio of concurrent projects, leads the ILM Project Coordinators and other project personnel, and works closely with cross-functional teams to optimize workflows, manage risks, and ensure high-quality project outcomes. The role also contributes to long-term process improvements, resource planning, and operational excellence within the ILM program.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Planning & Strategy (30%)
- Lead the development of comprehensive project plans, including scope, schedule, budget, risk, change management, and communication strategies.
- Define project objectives, success metrics, and deliverables in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
- Facilitate project kickoff meetings and planning sessions to ensure clear alignment of roles, expectations, and timelines.
- Develop project frameworks, templates, and standards to support consistent project planning across the ILM team.
- Contribute to strategic discussions regarding program-level planning, resource allocation, and long-term content development strategies.
Project Controls & Monitoring (30%)
- Oversee project execution, ensuring adherence to planned scope, schedule, and budget.
- Implement and maintain project controls, tracking tools, and reporting mechanisms to monitor progress and forecast performance.
- Conduct risk assessments, identify emerging issues or delays, and proactively lead mitigation and escalation actions.
- Ensure all project documentation, artifacts, and reporting are accurate, up-to-date, and aligned with ILM project management standards.
- Provide regular updates to ILM leadership on project status, risks, and resource needs.
Team Leadership & Coordination (25%)
- Lead, mentor, and support Project Coordinators and other project personnel to ensure consistent application of project management practices.
- Provide coaching, guidance, and professional development support to foster a high-performing project delivery team.
- Coordinate cross-functional work among Product Development, Learning Design, Editing, Publishing, Graphics, and external SMEs.
- Promote strong communication, collaboration, and accountability across all contributors and departments.
- Support workload prioritization, task assignment, and team-level resource planning to ensure the right capacity for project needs.
Process Improvement & Operational Excellence (15%)
- Lead and contribute to continuous improvement of ILM project workflows, processes, and tools.
- Evaluate and enhance project management methodologies to drive efficiency, quality, and consistency across projects.
- Support change management initiatives and adoption of new digital tools, technologies, and content development strategies.
- Provide insights into program-level improvements, helping identify opportunities to streamline operations and enhance ILM project delivery capabilities.
Skills & Abilities:
- Comprehensive knowledge of project management principles, PMI methodologies, and best practices (e.g., project charters, work breakdown structures, risk registers, Gantt schedules, stakeholder management).
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex, multi-phase projects in a fast-paced environment with multiple stakeholders and competing priorities.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate teams, manage performance, and influence outcomes across cross-functional environments.
- Highly effective organizational, communication, facilitation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Experience managing educational content, curriculum development, or publishing projects through planning, development, publishing, and QA stages.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving ability, with sound judgment in assessing risks, resolving issues, and improving processes.
- Self-directed, collaborative, and adaptive team player who thrives in a dynamic environment.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Project Management, Education, Communications, Business, or a related field.
- PMP certification is an asset.
- 5+ years of progressive project management experience, preferably in educational content development, curriculum development, or publishing.
- Experience supervising or mentoring project staff or cross-functional project teams.
- Proficiency with project management software and experience managing project budgets, schedules, and resource plans.
Applicants with education credentials earned outside of Canada should have their credentials evaluated by World Education Services (WES), International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS) or the Comparative Education Services (CES).
Remuneration: $84,655.22 - $112,153.60 annually, plus a comprehensive benefits package.
