The opportunity is for an initial office-based and then on-site Environmental Manager for a brownfield/live Combustion Turbine Generation project in Holyrood, NL . Office-based portion includes providing Environmental management services through the design and procurement stages. On-site opportunity is to manage the Works Contractor(s) as an Owner’s Representative to ensure the construction project is executed per applicable environmental codes, standards, and requirements.

Opportunity is for a term position for the current length of the project May 2026 to approximately December 2030, with the option for extension or relocation to a future project site.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Provide environmental reviews of design documents during the engineering stage to support a safe working design from a construction perspective
  • Work with Project Leadership to define the environmental project guidleines in working and collaborating with various stakeholders, including private or public agencies
  • Take a leadership role and actively engage all stakeholders that may potentially impact environmental activities
  • Organize and facilitate environmental support activities as may be required legally or in support of the project
  • Collaborate with the project team to anticipate and collaborate on mitigation activities to address potential environmental risks and issues
  • Visually inspect all construction activities on a daily basis to confirm installation procedures are aligned with Environmental code requirements per Client, Stantec, and applicable environmental standards.
  • Lead the on-site safety culture for the project to support a safe working site
  • Identify any non-conformance items in daily/weekly report and communicate appropriately in clearly written Environmental inspection reports
  • Develop a relationship with works contractors’ personnel to support an efficient and environmentally friendly work site
  • Communicate clearly with Stantec’s on-site Construction Manager to identify confirmation of Environmental procedures and non-conformance items
  • Able to communicate on-site Environmental items and issues to management and client.

Education and Experience

  • Experience working with provincial (Newfoundland) and federal environmental regulatory agencies and knowledge of municipal, provincial, and federal regulatory requirements
  • At least 10 years working as an Environmental Lead and/or Manager
  • Degree in Environmental or Geological Sciences or Engineering, or a similar field of study
  • Technical knowledge related to environmental practices
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, direct, perform, review, and present status updates related to environmental project activities
  • Experience working in live combustion generation facilities, high-voltage substations/Electrical safety, and similar type projects
  • Current First Aid/CPR certificate

Location

  • Preference given to local candidates in the Northeast Avalon, NL region.
  • Open to candidates that require to move to project location
  • Open to candidates that require subsistence and travel

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
