JOB SUMMARY:
The Department of Health Studies in the School of Health and Community Services is currently seeking a qualified professional to join the Autism and Behaviour Sciences team as a Professor. Under the direction of the Associate Dean, the Professor is responsible for the delivery of curriculum, development of an effective learning environment for students, and academic leadership.
The successful applicant will be expected to develop, deliver and revise curricula in collaboration with other College faculty. The successful candidate will be required to develop and teach a variety of courses, ranging from dual credit delivery (high school) to degree level programming.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The duties
of this position will include, but are not limited to the following:
- Designing,
updating, and delivering a variety of courses.
- Defining,
evaluating, and validating learning outcomes for courses and programs which
uphold academic quality and college policies and procedures.
- Creating a
positive and engaging learning environment both in the classroom and online which
uphold the principles of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI).
- Using a
variety of teaching and learning strategies such as Experiential Learning (EL),
Universal Design for Learning (UDL), adaptive technology, alternative delivery
methodologies.
- Designing
appropriate strategies and tools for facilitating and evaluating student
progress and achievement.
- Participate
in department, school, and college-wide activities/tasks as required.
- Work in a collaborative, collegial manner both within the department and across the college.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The
successful applicant will have:
- A Masters
Degree in Applied Behaviour Analysis, Psychology or Education
- Incumbent
must be a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst in good standing with Behaviour
Analyst Certification Board.
- Three (3)
to five (5) years of previous adult or post-secondary level teaching
experience, including both classroom and online environments.
- Preference
will be given to those with program coordinator/leadership experience.
- An understanding of and experience with Verified Course Sequences through the Association for Behavior Analysis International (ABAI).
- Relate
theoretical knowledge to practical applications to provide a meaningful
learning environment for students of diverse backgrounds, learning styles, and
ages through innovative delivery methods.
- Demonstrated
ability to relate to learners and provide a positive learning environment to
students working at different skill levels including international students,
Indigenous students, first-generation students and students requiring
accommodation is an asset.
- Evidence
of demonstrated application of adult learning principles, methodologies,
curriculum design, and development.
- Knowledge
and experience with computer systems (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite) and
educational technologies (e.g. d2L, Canvas, zoom).
- Demonstrated
ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of an academic team,
through the application of strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrated commitment and understanding of human rights, equity, diversity and inclusion with the ability to communicate and work effectively inter-culturally with diverse groups of students, employees and the community.
The successful candidate must have an
ability to relate theoretical knowledge and practical applications through
innovative delivery methods so as to provide a meaningful learning environment
for students of diverse backgrounds and ages. The ability to work as a
part of a team and demonstration of excellent interpersonal and communication
skills are essential.
Faculty members hired at Mohawk College
must be prepared to teach with a learner-centered approach and to assist in the
development and application of alternate delivery methods. The incumbent may be
assigned to teach classes at any College Campus and may be scheduled to teach
between 8:00am and 10:00pm, Monday to Friday.
