Postdoctoral Fellowship Opportunity: Intrusion-Related Gold and Critical Metals in Yukon

The Mineral Deposit Research Unit (MDRU) at the University of British Columbia (UBC) is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join a multi-disciplinary research programme focused on Reduced Intrusion-Related Gold Systems (RIRGS) in the Yukon Territory. The project investigates the structural, magmatic, and mineralogical controls on gold mineralisation at a significant new RIRGS deposit.

Project overview:

The research aims to improve understanding of ore-forming processes in RIRGS, support further exploration, and evaluate opportunities for critical-mineral by-product recovery. The successful candidate will lead field-based and laboratory investigations, working closely with researchers at UBC and Sitka Gold Corp.

We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher with expertise in one or more of the following areas:

• Ore mineralogy and mineral chemistry

• Structural geology and hydrothermal systems

• Economic geology

• Paragenesis and alteration mineralogy

The position will contribute to one or more of the following project themes:

  • Critical mineral deportment and links to gold mineralisation – characterizing critical mineral host mineralogy and assessing by-product potential and recovery opportunities.

  • Paragenesis and vein evolution – developing a detailed framework linking vein formation to magmatic and hydrothermal activity.

  • Structural controls on gold mineralisation – mapping and analysing vein networks to understand ore distribution.

The postdoctoral researcher will work closely with a MSc student undertaking a structural study of the Blackjack deposit.

Interviews will take place mid-January 2026.

Qualifications

• PhD in geology, earth sciences, or a related field (awarded or expected by the start date)

• Research experience in mineralogy, economic and structural geology

• Strong analytical and field skills

• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively

Position details

• Salary: $75,000–$95,000 CAD per year, depending on experience

• Location: Department of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences, UBC Vancouver

• Start date: Spring 2026

• Duration: Up to 3 years
