As part of the Student Life team, the Orientation Coordinator is responsible for assisting in the planning, delivering, and evaluating orientation programming at NAIT, which supports student development and retention. This position works collaboratively across campus to create welcoming, inclusive experiences for new students and their supporters.
Key Responsibilities
- Supports the design, delivery, and evaluation of the NAIT Student Orientation welcome event, as well as additional orientation activities that enhance student development and engagement (e.g. HOOTs, Service Fairs).
- Coordinate the development of virtual resources and participation opportunities for parents and supporters
- Develop learning materials to support engagement with and retention of orientation curriculum.
- Assist in the development and implementation of evaluation activities to assess impact and inform ongoing improvements.
- Build partnerships and collaborate with campus stakeholders to ensure a cohesive orientation experience for students.
- Develop digital and print materials, maintain web content, and implement communication strategies to inform students and the NAIT community.
- Recruit, train, and supervise orientation volunteers.
- Lead the recruitment, training, and coaching of Orientation Leaders, Campus Tour Facilitators, and general volunteers.
- Support and collaborate on additional department and institutional events (e.g. Open House, Hiring Fair).
- Contribute to long-term vision and goal setting for student engagement and retention activities.
- Ensure effective use of resources to meet financial requirements.
Skills and Abilities
- Institutional Awareness: Understanding NAIT’s mission, goals, and values, as well as Student Engagement and Student Well-being objectives
- Event Planning Expertise: Proven experience in organizing and managing large-scale events.
- Student Development Knowledge: Ability to research, apply, and assess theories related to student development, adult learning, and support services.
- Project Management: Strong skills in planning, executing, and evaluating projects.
- Collaboration: Ability to work effectively with cross-campus partners, staff, administration, and external agencies.
- Communication Skills: Exceptional interpersonal, written, verbal, presentation, and facilitation abilities; comfortable speaking to large groups.
- Evaluation and Assessment: Knowledge of developing and administering evaluation techniques for programs and workshops.
- Organizational Skills: Superior time management and organizational abilities to meet deadlines and budget requirements.
- Leadership: Experience in mentoring, coaching, and providing strategic direction.
- Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Outlook, PeopleSoft, and survey/assessment tools.
- Cultural Competence: High self-awareness and ability to work effectively in diverse and complex environments.
Qualifications
- Related postsecondary diploma or degree.
- 3-5 years of related work experience.
- Demonstrated experience in event planning and project coordination, preferably in a post-secondary environment.
- Demonstrated experience in workshop content development; use of active learning strategies; developing, evaluating, and reporting on objectives/outcomes.
- Community engagement and outreach experience.

Remuneration: $61,997.52 - $83,085.08 annually, plus a comprehensive benefits package. (Classification – Coordinator I).
This position is covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Collective Agreement.
