What you'll do:
- Maximize the number of days per month the tractors on assigned fleet are productive
- Personal involvement in driver time off and work schedule discussions to ensure the drivers capacity is maximized and they fleet mileage targets are achieved. Regular monitoring of drivers’ days worked and days off.
- Maintain a clear understanding of all driver/tractor availability to ensure capacity is fully captured.
- Participation in shop scheduling, anticipating maintenance downtime, and ensure shop appointments are made strategically to avoid negative/unnecessary impacts to truck/driver utilization
- Involvement in driver selection process when awarding posted schedules
- Ongoing management of drivers’ performance, including tracking of mileage targets and days out targets, with a focus on company policy and procedures as per the company regulations. This will include follow up on and documentation of customer service issues (driver related lates) operational concerns, offroute mileage questions/investigation, employee reviews, and driver file management.
- Work on behalf of the driver to resolve any day to day or long term issues/concerns in order to positively impact driver retention numbers
- Driver Payroll/Accessorial pay audits and approval along with driver Expense Approvals
- Preplan US drivers on Southbound loads in advance, and communicate to appropriate parties on needs for matching northbound loads
- Communication with relevant internal stakeholders when domestic freight is needed to fill long haul driver gaps, ensuring utilization of truck and driver is meeting company and driver expectations
What you bring:
College Education, preferably in Supply Chain Management an asset
5-7 years of related work experience
1-3 years of Supervisory/Management experience
Excellent communication skills are required
Must have strong leadership skills
Must have the ability to multitask, make decisions and problem solve
Strong organization skills required
Manage driver performance, ensuring drivers are adhering to expectations and requirements
Ensure drivers complete ongoing training as required, coordinating with Safety and Compliance Manager
Complete complaint investigations with the support of Human Resources
Issue progressive discipline as required, in adherence with the Collective Agreement
Participate in Joint Labour meetings as needed
