What is the opportunity?

Are you looking to take the next step as an engineering leader?

As a Lead Developer you will be part of a development team that supports our internal BFST Teams as well as our external teams and business partners by ensuring product quality, value, solution, and technical delivery.

The Business Financial Services Technology (BFST) mandate is to build the next-generation technologies that change how millions of people interact with financial information and one another. Our products need to handle information at massive scale and extend well beyond traditional banking.

The team offers the opportunity to leverage our large-scale transformation programs to develop innovative solutions to our most challenging problems for RBC’s commercial banking customers. We hire people with a broad set of technical skills who are ready to take on tough challenges and make an impact to millions of Canadians and businesses every day.

You will work with our team to identify impediments, risks, help drive continuous improvement, optimize productivity, influence/collaborate with cross-discipline teams to develop compelling technical solutions and drive transformation.

What will you do?

  • Champions ways-of-working towards business transformation and supporting change management across the teams.

  • Lead the development and adoption of best practices, driving automation of software delivery where possible, improved availability, and resiliency.

  • Collaborate with SRE to drive resiliency and operational excellence

  • Guide, coach, and mentor team to drive optimal performance from team members

  • Collaborate with other teams (DevOps, Cloud, Technology Infrastructure etc.)

  • Through collaboration and facilitation, assist in driving program ceremonies and processes associated with our Agile Model.

  • Resolving complex technology related issues impacting one or multiple teams, escalating to management and managing through to resolution.

  • Working in collaboration to provide input on high-level estimates for product increments as part of forward planning and in-flight work.

  • Identifying areas for process improvement, facilitating solutions, and escalating accordingly

  • Success of this role is measured in terms on how well you and the team deliver on project/support objectives and commitments.

What do you need to succeed?

  • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent

  • 10+ years of technology domain experience in information technology roles

  • At least 5 years of experience engineering and designing enterprise applications

  • Practical experience leading teams of engineers and working cross functionally with other areas of IT

  • Strong communication and influencing skills:

  • 4+ years of hands-on .Net and SQL software development

  • 2+ Years working within an Agile team & Tools (Jira / Confluence)

  • Solid experience with abstraction and applying it to learning new languages

  • Strong organizational & decision-making skills.

  • Ability to simplify complex problems and communicate them in plain language

  • Hands on experience:

    • UI (Angular 7+)

    • Middleware / Integration tier (.Net Service ASMX/WCF),

    • MS SQL (Progress OpenEdge knowledge a bonus)

    • Framework (.Net core and .Net Framework);

    • ASP.net UI

    • IIS management and configuration

    • Reverse engineering code (business logic)

    • Providing guidance/collaboration with other developers

    • Designing, developing, testing, and troubleshooting RESTful/SOAP API and interface specifications (Swagger, RAML, SOAP)

    • Unit and functional testing

    • Code merging and branching methodologies using Git and code release process.

    • Supporting production-level software

  • Experience building software for the financial services industry – banking, insurance, or investments as bonus
