Job Description

What is the opportunity?

The RBC PH&N IC Investment Strategy team is responsible for providing guidance and advice on portfolio construction, asset allocation and product fulfillment to the more than 140 Investment Counsellors in Canada. Reporting to the Senior Portfolio Engineer, the main contribution of the Junior Portfolio Engineer will be to support portfolio construction initiatives. You will work on multi-asset portfolio models, ad-hoc modelling requests as well as material for internal training and client communication. The Junior Portfolio Engineer will support the Investment Strategy team with a wide-array of strategic initiatives that will support and enable the growth of our business while maintaining a consistent institutional investment framework to our high-net-worth clients. The ideal candidate would have at least two years of investment-related experience, a strong desire to further their knowledge of the financial markets and portfolio management, strong communication skills and an ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment, genuine intellectual curiosity and commitment to continuous learning. 

What will you do?

  • Enhance and maintain infrastructure to provide the Investment Strategy team with monitoring and reporting capabilities on its multi-asset portfolio models. Alongside the Senior Portfolio Engineer, monitor the models on a regular basis.

  • Support the preparation of material on the multi-asset portfolio models for internal committee meetings.

  • Support the Senior Portfolio Engineer with ad-hoc modelling requests and RFPs inquiries.

  • Develop an understanding of our portfolio construction guidelines and assist with initiatives to drive consistency in portfolio management across the firm.

  • Contribute to the content development of training modules for Investment Counselling teams, and relevant client-friendly communication as required.

  • Participate in Portfolio Manager update calls for RBC PH&N IC and develop an in-depth knowledge of strategies available on our platform.

Must Have

  • Bilingualism (English and French) required, as you will regularly serve our clients and do business with RBC partners and/or employees across Canada with English and French speaking

    needs.

  • Bachelor's Degree with a focus on a relevant field of study (e.g. Commerce, Finance, Economics, etc.)

  • A minimum of two years of experience in an investment-related role

  • Current enrollment in CFA program

  • Experience with Morningstar Direct and AWS

  • Proven computer skills including experience in Excel/VBA, Python.

  • Strong analytical skills and attention to details

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities

Nice to Have

  • Previous experience working with investment counsellors/advisors

  • Familiarity with multi-asset portfolios and alternative investments

  • Familiarity with FactSet/Bloomberg

  • CFA Charter holder
