Are you an emergency management professional looking for a challenging role located on the beautiful coast of British Columbia, supporting our small community of terminals? Our four BC terminals work hard to safely and efficiently receive transportation fuel from oil refineries, process it, then distribute by truck, rail, marine, or pipeline. In order to successfully run these operations, we are seeking a Specialist to formulate, implement and maintain emergency and continuity management solutions. You will be tasked with improving business processes while aligning with regulatory requirements, industry standards and best practices.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Implement the Distribution Emergency & Business Continuity Management Program at the BC Terminals located in Port Moody, Kamloops, Terrace and Nanaimo
  • Collaborate with emergency management professionals to develop a robust program
  • Build and maintain existing or new preparedness plans, response plans and procedures
  • Support emergency response for the BC terminals, providing on-site support as needed
  • Establish and maintain emergency response teams to align with the emergency response plans
  • Incorporate regulatory requirements and standard methodologies relating to preparedness, response, and management; coordinating the requirements with the business
  • Coordinate required drills and exercises, and prepare timely reports to accurately reflect the outcome of exercises and findings to drive continuous improvement
  • Improve employee awareness with respect to emergency preparedness by developing effective training programs and providing mentorship for personnel
  • Participate in community awareness, emergency response networks and mutual aid organizations
  • Provide expertise in the selection, procurement and maintenance of emergency response facilities, equipment and infrastructure

We’d like to review your application if you have…

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Five years of experience working in emergency management roles in oil and gas, rail, marine, or transportation industries
  • A post-secondary degree or diploma; preferably in health and safety, disaster and emergency management or equivalent
  • Incident Command System (ICS) 100, 200, 300 level training; ideally instructor level
  • A valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record
  • Proven informal leadership and facilitation skills, with experience developing and implementing emergency response and continuity plans including: response requirements, exercise design and coordination
  • Expert knowledge in emergency planning and response concepts
  • Phenomenal written and oral communication skills with advanced skills in presentation, negotiation, training, coaching and mentoring
  • Knowledge of industry regulations locally, provincially, nationally and internationally
  • A demonstrated ability to engage collaboratively and effectively with internal and external parties

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:

  • You will work out of our Burrard Products terminal office located at 1155 Glenayre Drive, Port Moody, British Columbia
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
  • Travel to other Suncor site locations is required, approximately 20% of your time
  • You may be required to respond without notice to support major incidents/events
