Job Summary
The
Director, Academic Technology, Artificial Intelligence Innovation will steer
the college’s digital learning strategy including activities and oversight to
enable the purposeful digital evolution of teaching and learning. Through the successful transformation and
implementation of innovative technology solutions and evidence-informed
practices, the incumbent will lead in areas, including but not limited, to
artificial intelligence strategy, AR/VR development and curricular integration,
academic software implementation, academic technology innovation and research, and
flexible program delivery modalities and online learning. Through their
leadership, the Director will enable high service-level standards for the academic
technology support of students, faculty and other educational partners at the
college.
The
incumbent leads the development and maintenance of a holistic integrated
technologically advanced learning ecosystem, ensuring interoperability, and
configurability of all additions. The incumbent will provide strong stewardship
to ensure Mohawk College remains a leader as a technology focused college.
Additionally, the incumbent will have, and maintain, a high-level of currency
in the field of academic technology, including integration strategies, trends
and responses to the challenges and opportunities posed by artificial
intelligence, and the application of predictive analytics. The leader will also
support academic technology governance at the college with the support of other
senior leaders and collaborators.
What you’ll be doing:
A
blend of Strategy, Planning & Execution:
- Working closely with the Academic administrators, CIO and all key internal stakeholders, the incumbent coordinates a team of professionals to ensure the delivery of academic technology solutions and services that consistently meet and exceed the needs of the organization, drive process efficiencies and high level of satisfaction both for faculty and students.
- Lead, collect and report metrics on key strategic priorities and activities in a compelling and effective manner.
- Provide leadership to steer the college’s approaches, support, and responses to Artificial Intelligence
- Effectively lead teams in a people-centric manner that respects the need to drive collective priorities but respect the individual contribution of team members.
- Lead governance efforts to ensure consultative and broad stakeholder decision making vis-à-vis academic technology.
- Assess current capabilities and needs for academic technology solutions and define the 3-5 year strategic product and service roadmap, in particular around a digital strategy supporting academic delivery.
- Focus on continuous process improvement and user satisfaction by implementing innovative technological solutions to support remote/virtual/online and face to face education initiatives.
- Develop and operationalize business plans for engaging academic technology with industry partners notably in the XR (AR/VR) space.
- Ensure high quality support and reliability of academic technology.
What you’ll bring to the role:
- A minimum of 9 years of experience in relevant and progressive management positions
- A Master’s Degree in a related discipline (Computer Sciences, Mathematics, Business, Educational Technology)
- Exceptional people and talent management skills demonstrated by extensive management/people leadership experience preferably in unionized environments
- Knowledge of academic operations and teaching and learning in post-secondary.
- Ability to collaborate and lead change in areas that span cross-institutional scope.
- Demonstrated commitment and understanding of human rights, equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility.
- Demonstrated knowledge of how generative artificial intelligence (GIA) will continue to evolve and impact higher education, strategies to harness opportunities and mitigate risks in GAI.
