Job Summary
Reporting to the Manager, Institutional Research, incumbent provides extensive research services on a wide range of college activities at the institutional level, including but not limited to student success/persistence, program review and development, environmental scans, corporate reporting and statistical analysis.
The incumbent provides advice and direction on data reporting, analytics, and research requirements that will advance the College’s organizational goals and strategic priorities.
The Corporate Research Analyst is part of the Institutional Research Group responsible for the design and implementation of new and modified business processes and organizational structures which deliver increasingly efficient business outcomes, support academic excellence and student success, while maintaining and improving service delivery.
Working with the Corporate Reporting Analysts they will help shape the analytical tools, processes, architectures, and technologies so that managers at all levels throughout the organization have operational, tactical and strategic information, insight and tools related to research activities.
The incumbent is expected to provide thoughtful and proactive analysis and recommendations for advancing the College’s strategic priorities and initiatives. This position requires a thorough understanding of proven research and statistical analysis methods that will help inform strategic and policy changes that will assist in making this organization a leader in the field of education.
What you'll be doing:
Operational Management
- Direct, organize and lead projects that involve research and statistical analysis for the College.
- Committee participation where required including Strategic Enrolment Management (SEM), OCAS Data Warehouse Advisory Committee etc.
- Perform environment scans and competitor analysis for New Program Development opportunities, identifying and promoting areas of strategic opportunities that will position Mohawk and its students for success.
- On-going and in-depth research and statistical review related to Program Closures and Consolidations preparing reports and recommendations on findings.
- On-going and in-depth research and statistical analysis incorporating predictive modelling, segmentation, and machine learning related to student or program data.
- Assist in the development of dashboards, scorecards, reports, graphs and analytical models that support client’s needs.
- Assist in the design of databases and data warehouses for survey and research activity ensuring interoperability with Business Intelligence and data mining and analytics solutions.
- Analyse user requirements and based on findings, design functional specifications for analytics and data mining front-end applications.
- Provide support to various college departments regarding appropriate research/design methodology and execution, such as qualitative or quantitative, survey, questionnaire or focus groups, that will satisfy their research requirements and ensure the most pertinent information for decisions is gathered and provided.
- Disseminate, train and educate end-users on all analysis and research findings.
- Work with college stakeholders (such as marketing) ensure proper survey administration standards are met so that results are free from bias.
- Ensure regulatory body surveys are conducted and interpreted with the highest of standards.
- Manage third-party survey applications (e.g., Blue, Qualtrics) including upgrades, survey set-ups, new products and ensuring data security is maintained.
- Ensure data integrity and protection of personal information in accordance with ethical guidelines and federal/provincial legislation.
Deploy
- Evaluate and select appropriate survey software applications and ensuring system use and functionality meets the needs of the user community.
- Prepare surveys in accordance with best practice principles and the needs and business requirements.
- Conduct research using best practice methods making recommendations on tools, software and business intelligence methods in support of procurement and development efforts.
- The incumbent is also responsible for ensuring high levels of availability and will support adoption and deployment with sound technical skills and thorough understanding of business needs.
Strategy and Planning
- Provide insight and recommendations that will help refine current strategies enabling more informed decision making at the College including but not limited to student success and retention.
- Provide insight into program offerings enabling senior administrators to effectively and strategically make the best decisions for Mohawk College from the perspectives of program mix, financial viability, and student success perspective.
Other duties as assigned, included but not limited to:
- Numerous other research and surveys, differing in workload and duration.
What you’ll bring to the role:
- Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Data Science, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related field essential for this role, emphasizing expertise in research methods, analysis, predictive modeling, segmentation and machine learning.
- A minimum five years of experience in conducting large analytical studies, with expertise in data coding, and documentation.
- Proficient in statistical modeling, machine learning, segmentation, and research methodologies.
- Competent in conducting statistical analysis using tools like SPSS, Python, Metabase, SQL, and Excel.
- Demonstrate expertise in project implementation and delivery across all project life cycle stages. Showcase strong planning, execution, and coordination skills.
- Proficient in relational databases, with comprehensive knowledge of data privacy laws and exceptional analytical, problem-solving abilities.
- Skilled in handling large, interrelated datasets.
- Expertise in engaging with senior management for documenting, analyzing, and recommending solutions, as well as building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders.
- Experience with surveying tools and set-up.
- Effective task prioritization and execution in high-pressure environments.
- Demonstrated ability to thrive in collaborative environments, fostering teamwork and synergy.
- Excellent written and oral communication, interpersonal, presentation, and facilitation skills.
- Familiarity with Business Intelligence Software (e.g., Tableau, Cognos Analytics, Power BI) would be considered an asset.
- Experience in education sector environment is preferred.
