Position Summary...
The Senior Data Scientist represents the foundation of a data driven culture that has made Wal-Mart a leader in the retail industry. The incumbent in this role will use a wealth of ecommerce, physical store and external data available to understand customer behavior improve operational efficiencies and provide actionable insights to stakeholders so they can make smarter, data-driven decisions.The successful candidate will have an established background in solving complex problems, a strong technical ability, excellent project management skills, great communication skills, and the motivation to achieve results in a fast-paced environment. The Senior Data Scientist is constantly improving modelling and analytical capabilities by staying up to date on latest developments and techniques. The individual is creative and comes up with original new ways of approaching problems to improve data science and business outcomes. The role will also contribute to the development of other junior members.
What you'll do...
1. Data Source Identification: Supports the understanding of the priority order of requirements and service level agreements. Helps identify the most suitable source for data that is fit for purpose. Performs initial data quality checks on extracted data.
2. Conduct exploratory data analysis and identify the dimensions of the experiment, finalize the design, test hypotheses and conduct experiments
3. Analytical Modeling: Selects the analytical modeling technique most suitable for the structured, complex data and develops custom analytical models
4. Model Assessment & Validation: Identifies the model evaluation metrics. Applies best practice techniques for model testing and tuning to assess accuracy, fit, validity, and robustness for multi-stage models and model ensembles
5. Translates business requirements into projects, activities, and tasks and aligns to overall business strategy
6. Serves as an interpreter and conduit to connect business needs with tangible solutions and results
7. Execute projects from start to finish by taking a lead role in discovery, solution design, model build and communicating results with stakeholders
8. Recommends new processes and ways of working
9. Presents to and influences the team and business audience using the appropriate frameworks and conveys clear messages through business and stakeholder understanding
What you’ll bring:
You have a bachelor's degree and at least three years of experience as a data scientist.
Graduate degree (Masters, or PhD) preferred.
Strong hands-on skills in sourcing, cleaning, manipulating, and analyzing large volumes of data using distributed computing platform (Python, R, SQL, Spark, Hive etc.).
Have strong knowledge of Statistics and Machine Learning algorithms.
You have the courage to fail fast .
You have proven ability as a full stack data scientist who develops, optimizes, and scales models for the production environment .
You connect the how and why, using your knowledge of data science theories and methodologies to derive the best approach that is fit-for-purpose.
