This position is moving to OPG Corporate Headquarters: In Summer 2025, OPG will officially welcome employees to our new Corporate Headquarters located at 1908 Colonel Sam Drive, Oshawa, Ontario. This new space will enable teamwork, collaboration and innovation that will help us to achieve our mission to electrify life in one generation. This position will be temporarily based in Tiverton or the GTA until the move to Headquarters in the Summer of 2025.
JOB OVERVIEW
Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Business Development Analyst.
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Strategic Initiatives Oversight, Nuclear Sustainability Strategies, prepare, coordinate and issue technical and financial evaluations of potential business development opportunities. Participate on cross-functional teams with other business units to develop and assess business opportunities. Be responsible for the management and administration of contracts and projects. Support the development and negotiation of commercial contracts with external representatives, consultants, sponsors, agents of OPG, and internal OPG staff.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Assist in the development and negotiation of projects such as generating plants, district energy systems, or services opportunities, with outside partners that will generate a profitable return to Ontario Power Generation. Assess and manage the risks associated with such projects.
- Assist in the identification of partnership and joint venture opportunities, including Aboriginal partnerships, which may increase Company profitability.
- Assist with rapid high-level opportunity assessments in support of quick-turnaround queries from Senior Management and support of communications with shareholder.
- Assist with the continuous improvement of the business, including a knowledge of commercial contracting experiences, technological developments, practices and related experience that add value to the business.
- Assist with the writing of minor agreements, such as non-disclosure agreements and memoranda of understanding, and support the negotiation those agreements with external counterparties.
- Be responsible for the management and administration of contracts and projects. Manage contracts to ensure adherence to all contractual agreements between clients such as agencies, businesses and individuals within the parameters of profitability, effective resource utilization and overall benefits. Provide advice, guidance and expertise to stakeholders with respect to contract management. Provide feedback on project results compared to expectations. Prepare annual budget data, periodic restatements, billing information, and other information as required. Visit project locations to facilitate the work function as required.
- Participate in cross-functional teams with other business units in the development of new business opportunities. Coordinate team activities to ensure that the appropriate expertise can participate on critical business issues.
- Perform analysis of ongoing business opportunities and analysis of new business development opportunities.
- Perform studies, investigations, analysis and the preparation of reports and recommendations related to business opportunities.
- Provide support and analysis for market assessments of services and technologies. Collect, analyze, report and present market and competitive intelligence information. Provide advice to project managers on issues that affect their projects using knowledge of energy industry and energy legislative/policy/regulatory framework.
- Support the development project-level and broader program-level business plans, including analysis of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats (SWOT).
- Support the identification and assessment of new business opportunities for Ontario Power Generation.
- Support the preparation of Business Case Summaries and Memoranda for senior management.
- Work other business units, and other divisions to ensure timely and effective assessment and execution of business development opportunities.

EDUCATION
- Requires a knowledge of economics, finance, engineering, environmental science, business administration and law to perform technical and financial analysis of potential projects with respect to new business development opportunities. Requires a knowledge of accounting principles and practices to prepare financial evaluations. Requires a knowledge of contract law to assist with contract negotiations, manage contractual agreements between clients and provide advice and guidance to stakeholders with respect to contract management. Requires a knowledge of information management and reporting systems, organizational concepts, technical problem-solving applications to develop, maintain and operate financial models in support of business opportunity assessments. Requires a knowledge of technical writing for the purpose of preparing financial and technical reports. Requires strong written and verbal communication skills to communicate effectively with all internal and external contacts associated with accomplishing work objectives. This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired through the completion of 4 years of University training.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a flexible hybrid office environment.
Location is flexible, staff can be located at Tiverton or GTA.
