Overview:
Pembina Pipeline Corporation’s Capital Asset & Complex Accounting team is seeking a dedicated and proven self-starter for the position of Accountant, Complex Accounting. This position will report directly to the Supervisor of Complex Accounting, in the Accounting Service Unit (ASU), part of Pembina’s Financial Services Division.
Our ASU is a key player in Pembina's financial landscape, providing comprehensive financial reporting and accounting leadership across all of Pembina's Service Units. We are entrusted with the vital task of preparing and assembling Pembina's consolidated financial statements, notes, MD&A, and operational highlights. Our team is also dedicated to setting and enforcing accounting policies, scrutinizing and interpreting new accounting standards, managing capital assets accounting, and ensuring legal entity reporting and regulatory compliance. In addition, we take pride in preserving the integrity of our SAP FI/CO data.
Responsibilities may include but not limited to:
- Ensure accurate and timely reporting of complex accounting topics to meet internal and external reporting requirements;
- Preparation of quarterly and annual financial statement files and working papers while maintaining a solid working knowledge of IFRS reporting and disclosure requirements for Impairment, ARO, and Leasing;
- Develop a high level of proficiency with key systems such as SAP, Powerplan, and Analysis for Office;
- Help maintain lease accounting system: assisting in performing enhancements to current system for continuous improvement and enhancements of the software;
- Coordinating with the Business Units and Service Units with Pembina for identifying new leases and maintaining lease accounting;
- Annual budget and monthly forecasting as it relates to complex accounting areas, including ARO, NIL, and ROU;
- Support the team in preparation and delivery of the monthly internal and quarterly external reporting packages with specific focus Impairment, ARO, and Leasing;
- Desire and drive to understand relevant and future IFRS as it relates to Impairment, ARO, and Leasing;
- Support and maintain open communication with all ASU and FSU departments including but not limited to Accounting Policy, Tax, Treasury and Corporate Planning;
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with Business Unit teams;

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance along with a CPA – CA accounting designation;
- Recent experience in quarter-end and year-end reporting, including external financial reporting would be an asset;
- Minimum of 2 years’ post designation experience;
- Comfortable with understanding and learning accounting systems (SAP and related consolidation system, BPC experience an asset, PowerPlan Leasing Software);
- Ability to work in a fast paced, hardworking, environment where successful employees are comfortably embracing change as a standard;
- The ability to identify key IFRS financial reporting issues through practical application of accounting and operational knowledge;
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills and a quick learner who is self-motivated and able to work under tight deadlines in a continuously changing environment; and
- Effective communication, organization, and team-building skills complemented by a strong work ethic.
