Purpose


GBM Onboarding is a critical component in the bank’s overall AML Compliance efforts.  The Officer assists in data entry as part of the KYC work done for GBM clients, ensuring we meet Enterprise-Wide and local onboarding standards, including regulatory requirements and bank-driven due diligence measures. 

 

Accountabilities 

 

•    Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.

•    Ensuring data and documentation for clients are in line following the firm’s policies, standards, and procedures.

•    Follow up with internal partners to ensure timely actions on cases requiring their input.

•    Update firm systems and databases with information/documentation obtained from clients.

•    Handle inquiries and ad hoc requests from internal clients, including Compliance, where required.

•    Produce high-quality, error-free work independently and in a timely manner, meeting expected throughput rates.

•    Manage workload effectively to prioritize cases, including ad-hoc requests and projects, to meet business demands.

•    Understand and keep abreast with regulatory/ tax requirements for clients in KYC.

•    Support in any activities required for Global GBM clients.

•    Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

•    Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Dimensions


•    This position supports GBM onboarding. This requires understanding of KYC/AML requirements.
•    The incumbent will be required to work with stakeholders from all levels and business lines. Communication and making linkages across multiple areas will be critical to success.
•    The position requires a structured and disciplined approach to data management, metrics and reporting as well as a continuous improvement and innovation mindset. Agility and openness to change are key drivers of success.
•    The position involves multiple concurrent activities under intense deadlines.
•    The position involves delivery within tight timelines as well as regular problem solving with a high level of ambiguity and complexity.


Education / Experience / Other Information

 

•    Basic understanding of Capital Markets and Corporate/Investment Banking. An undergraduate and/or graduate degree in Finance, Business, Economics, or a related discipline would be an asset.
•    Basic understanding of AML/KYC regulatory frameworks impacting client onboarding would be preferred.
•    Strong business acumen, judgment, critical thinking, and time management skills. Good interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills to build consensus and obtain cooperation from clients and colleagues
•    Willingness to work outside traditional business hours occasionally, due to the international scope of the business and multiple stakeholders
•    Demonstrate teamwork, collaboration, responsiveness, accountability, and ownership.
•    Quick learning ability to understand policies, procedures, systems, process and controls
•    Written and verbal proficiency in English is mandatory
