Senior Technical Writer – Enabling Resources Program (1-Year Contract)

  • Location: Hybrid / Partial On-Site (3–5 days per week required)

  • Term: 1-year contract

  • Start Date: December 2025 or ASAP

  • Interview Period: December 1–5, 2025

We are seeking a Senior Technical Writer to support the Enabling Resources Program (ERP). In this role, you will develop clear, accurate, and accessible documentation that supports critical market, business, and system changes. This position is ideal for an experienced technical writer with a background in utilities, energy, markets, or other complex, regulated environments.

About the Role

As a Senior Technical Writer, you will translate complex technical, market, and policy concepts into understandable content for diverse audiences, including business users, technical teams, and external stakeholders. You’ll work closely with Market Design, Market Rules, Line of Business (LOB) subject matter experts, business analysts, and technical leads to ensure all documentation is complete, consistent, and aligned with program timelines and objectives.


Key Responsibilities

You will be responsible for:

  • Analyzing Existing Materials 

  • Review and interpret architectural and system diagrams, business process maps, and related artifacts.

  • Use these materials to produce clear and accurate business procedures and technical documents.

  • Developing Market Design Documentation 

  • Draft market design documentation in consultation with the Market Design team.

  • Produce and refine process and technical diagrams in collaboration with Market Design and LOB subject matter experts to meet ERP critical timelines.

  • Creating Business & Technical Requirements Documentation

  • Coordinate with subject matter experts, business analysts, and project office staff to collect information.

  • Develop business requirements documents, design documentation, and solution specifications to support the development of processes, information systems, and related tools associated with business processes, policies, and standards.

  • Supporting Market Rules & Manual Changes 

  • Work with the Market Rules team on documentation for Market Manual changes in support of ERP-related Market Rules updates.

  • Collaborate with LOB SMEs on drafting and reviewing ERP-related changes to internal and external manuals.

  • Coordinating Publication & Baseline Management 

  • Coordinate publication of revised manuals and documentation with the appropriate baseline or configuration management function.

  • Ensure version control, consistency, and traceability across documentation sets.

  • Producing Training, Technical, and Test Documentation 

  • Work with technical leads and project teams to develop: 

  • Training documentation and user guides

  • Operational procedures and runbooks

  • Test plans and technical documentation

  • Technical diagrams based on industry best practices

  • Supporting Stakeholder Engagement & Accessibility 

  • Develop stakeholder engagement materials, including: 

  • Slide decks

  • Design memos

  • Other external-facing ERP communication materials

  • Ensure all external content meets AODA accessibility requirements and follows accessibility best practices.


Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Education & Certification 

  • Technical writing certification (required).

  • Successful completion of 4 years of university education in an appropriate discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Professional Experience 

  • 8–15 years of experience in technical writing or a closely related documentation role.

  • Proven ability to translate complex technical and business concepts into clear, concise, and user-friendly content for different audience types.

  • Tools & Technical Skills 

  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, including: 

  • MS Word

  • PowerPoint

  • Visio

  • Excel

  • Project

  • Domain Knowledge & Core Competencies 

  • Clear understanding of: 

  • Process mapping

  • Procedure documentation

  • Market design and policy design

  • Demonstrated ability to produce technical documentation in simplified formats tailored to varied audiences.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams (Market Design, Market Rules, LOB SMEs, business analysts, project staff, and technical leads).

Nice-to-Have (Assets)

  • Prior experience working with a utility, energy company, or in a regulated market environment.

  • Experience producing content that is compliant with AODA or similar accessibility standards.

  • Background in large-scale program or project environments focused on market or system change.


Work Environment

  • Hybrid work model with 3–5 days per week on-site.
