About the Team
The Finance team is responsible for financial reporting and control, tax and compliance, strategic planning and financial Planning & analysis, Treasury and working capital management, capital budgeting, and Risk management.
Reporting to the Manager, Accounting, this role has the primary responsibility of managing the company’s accounting and financial statements preparation, ensuring accurate financial records are maintained in accordance with accepted accounting principles, and ensure that timely monthly, quarterly and year end accounting processing are met.
About the Role
In this role, you’ll gain hands‑on exposure to multiple areas of finance and develop a true end‑to‑end view of the business. This role provides broad exposure, allowing you to see the full story—from strategy to execution— giving you visibility into the full picture of how the organization operates and makes decisions. You will have the opportunity to collaborate across a diverse range of financial functions, including accounting, treasury, capital management, budgeting, and project work.
The Senior Accountant at Tarion:
- Is responsible for the monthly accounting cycle through preparation of accounting, analysis, and preparation of the month-end entries.
- Develops and recommends accounting model for new transactions by applying accounting principles.
- Collaborates with other departments to ensure adherence to cutoff procedures and prepare reliable financial information to senior management.
- Analyzes and prepares monthly, quarterly and year-end financial statements and required schedules for management reports.
- Prepares adhoc analysis and reports for senior management and Board of Directors/various Committees, as requested.
- Provides assistance in investigating reconciling items in accounts reconciliations
- Leads the year-end external audit and collaboration with actuaries.
- Acts as in-house expert for general ledger reporting tools.
- Maintains General Ledger and various accounting modules.
- Assists other Finance team members in system processing issues and any related UAT testing or FMS development, as required
- Supports cash management function, as requested.
- Participates in adhoc projects and initiatives, as requested.
A great candidate for this position will have:
- CPA designation with 5 years of progressive experience in the accounting and finance function
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word is required.
- Experience with sophisticated ERP system with multiple integrations is an asset
- Insurance background is an asset.
- Knowledge of IFRS 17 is an asset
- Access to High-Speed Internet connection at home is essential.

Working Environment
This is a hybrid role requiring working two (2) days in the office and three (3) days remotely, per week. (All remote work must be completed from your home office within the province of Ontario.)
To support learning, collaboration, and connection, new hires work in the office four days per week for their first three months, giving them the opportunity to build strong relationships and gain a deep understanding of the business.
