What is the Opportunity?

To help transform RBC Insurance digital technologies from the outside in.  Utilizing a deep understanding of financial market technology, and a keen sense of future state technical architecture, the ideal candidate will be able to not only understand existing RBC Insurance Infrastructure, but also be able to advocate for target state systems and architecture across our digital product suite.  With your passion you will also conduct research and understand technology and methods with the ability to support and enable ideation.  The candidate will be a key conduit between technology teams, digital product teams, and business leads.   They will be as astute at putting together a product roadmap, as they are surfacing technological risks – and they will use this know how to help drive RBCI forward on a path to digital transformation.

What Will You Do?

  • Capable for the vetting of product and service architecture and distribution through the digital channels strategy/roadmap, for multiple lines of businesses / channels, while also identifying emerging opportunities and target state technology.
  • Build the state of the art, highly scalable digital solutions as a strong visionary, business technical lead and contributor across the digital and data team
  • Detail potential competitive threats from digital enterprises that are generally considered outside of the traditional realm of competition
  • Identify, analyze, and scope digital acquisition targets with an understanding of integration requirements
  • Coordinate a strategic plan for leveraging integrated business architecture as part of future state vision

What Do You Need to Succeed?

Must Have:

  • Can get to details of the technical issues faced by developers and find ways to accelerate delivery by creating spike solutions, proof of concept development while articulating the ins and outs of the solutions in business language
  • Strong computer science knowledge – language agnostic, object oriented skills and can be hands on as well as drive small dev teams of 6 to 8 people, can run proof of concept development independently. Strong architecture experience and able to design solutions based on business requirements with available technologies; able to articulate and refine business requirements
  • Have solid understanding of Finance data, Business management, and technology trends & innovations in the financial services industry
  • Understanding of IT and Architecture Standards (TOGAF)
  • Strong software engineering and agile product development experience, to ensure speed and quality of deliverables by the team.
  • Familiar with Dev Ops (CI/CD), Infrastructure as a Code, and basic infrastructural knowledge to be able to demonstrate and build paths forwards with technology partners.
  • Has developed interfaces worked with third party libraries and integrated those into the solution using event driven architecture

  • Docker
  • Kubernetes
  • Java, React, Spring Boot, Go/Rust/Python/Phoenix/BEAM (Elixir, Erlang) experience
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms – Azure, AWS, GCP,
  • Experience in designing and building microservice architecture based applications
  • Experience writing apps built around event-based architecture
  • Certifications - AWS Certified Solution Architect (Associate) or Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, CNCF Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA), SAFe Product Owner/Product Manager.
