Job Description 

Under the direction of the Food Services Manager, the Senior Sales Attendant provides exceptional customer service to all clients of UBCO Food Services. This could include serving customers, taking payments and preparing food and beverages in either food service restaurants, residences or retail outlets. Additionally, the Senior Sales Attendant oversees the operation of a complex food services unit(s), supervising Sales Attendants and handling related administrative duties. This is an 8-month term position to cover a maternity leave, with an expected end date of April 30, 2026.
 
Organizational Status 
Reporting to the Food Services Manager, the position interacts with other Food Services Staff as well as staff, faculty students and all other customers. 
 
Work Performed 
- Oversees the operation of a complex food services unit(s). 
- Supervises Sales Attendants and oversees workload. 
- Handling related administrative tasks. 
- Serves customers. 
- Takes payments. 
- Prepares food and beverages in food service restaurants, residences and retail outlets. 
- Other duties as required. 
 
Consequence of Error/Judgement 
Ineffective leadership and poor customer service could negatively impact the reputation of UBCO Food Services. 
 
Supervision Received 
Provides day to day guidance and supervision to Sales Attendants. Monitors workload, delegates tasks, provides feedback into performance and has input into hiring decisions. 
 
Supervision Given 
Reports to the Food Services Manager. 
 
 

Preferred Qualifications 

- Grade 12 or equivalent and Food Safe Level 1 Certificate 

- Five years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience 

- Must complete and pass associated specialized training program, if located in a specialized Skills Outlet (i.e. Tim Hortons, Subway, Starbucks, etc). 

- Experience supervising others in a similar setting is required 

 

Performance Competencies & Criteria 

- Proven ability to train and supervise junior staff in a food service or similar setting. 
- Ability to maintain cafeteria in a safe and sanitary manner. 
- Excellent customer service skills with ability to deal tactfully and diplomatically with internal and external contacts. 
- Ability to provide quality service to customers in a courteous, patient manner. 
- Must be flexible and able to manage conflicting priorities to meet deadlines. 
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team with an aptitude for working in a collegial and collaborative environment. 
- Must be able to problem solve and deal with difficult situations in a clear and professional manner. 
- Excellent organizational skills, with a demonstrated ability to handle a high volume of work during peak periods; ability to multitask. 
- Demonstrated ability to organize workflow. 
- Effective time management skills. 
- Computer experience required; must have proficiency in Intermediate to advanced level of Word, PowerPoint and Outlook and Intermediate level of Excel. 
- Must be familiar with inventory management software. 

- Must be able to lift 30+ LBS safely  

- Must be able to work on your feet for 8+ hours
