Job Description

What is the opportunity?

The Senior Data Business Analyst will be responsible for the acceptance of and growth in RBC Capital Markets’ central repository of securities data.  In this position, you will achieve success by leading the analysis of business requirements and the subsequent translation into functional specifications as well as writing and executing test scrips to ensure quality of deliverables. It will also be essential for the analyst to provide reference data expertise throughout RBC Capital Markets and build effective relationships with business units and development teams across RBC.

What will you do?

  • Providing subject matter expertise within the reference data space to internal clients and development groups.
  • Participating in the data integration process:  requirements analysis and definition, documentation of functional specifications, building of test cases, and final integration into the production environment.
  • Identifying root causes of data issues and implement process improvement initiatives.
  • Contributing to the maintenance of securities reference metadata.
  • Developing and documenting operational controls and work processes.
  • Providing analysis in the selection of new market data vendors if and when required
  • Keeping abreast of industry best practices, regulatory requirements, and emerging tools, practices, concepts, and standards.

What you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • University Degree
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the use of reference data across different product types (fixed income, equity, derivatives, currencies, commodities, indices) within an established financial institution, investment bank or fund management organization.
  • 2 to 3 years of experience in defining requirements and documenting functional specifications including requirements documents, technical specifications, and process flows.
  • Experience developing SQL queries or reports from SQL databases and applications used in the analysis of requirements as well as reports produced for operations.
  • Relevant work experience using MS Excel, MS Access, Visio, and JIRA.

Nice to haves :

  • Canadian Securities Course
  • Understanding of capital market trading applications and its need for securities reference data. 
  • Experience with the use of Bloomberg and Reuters data (reference data, corporate actions).
  • Experience with GoldenSource or any another enterprise data management systems.
  • Working knowledge of ADP/Broadridge systems.
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Team player with excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Advanced problem solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.
  • Familiarity of the systems development life cycle.
  • Knowledge of Information Technology capabilities and constraints.
