Compensation Range

$5,365.42 - $7,709.92 CAD Monthly

In the normal course, employees will be hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range for a job.

Job Summary
The Marketing and Communications Coordinator is  responsible for all aspects of implementing,   managing,  and evaluating  the  social media strategies and digital marketing campaigns  for the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts.  This role ideates, develops and selects marketing collateral  with a focus on graphic design, and makes decisions about campaign content and schedules, as well as writing promotional materials for a range of Chan Centre events and programming  This role is the subject matter expert on current best practices and trends in social media marketing, and executes social media strategies and campaigns , manages social media interactions including direct patron engagement,  and evaluates social media and other digital campaign data in order to strategically adapt campaigns to increase engagement,  drive audience growth, and revenue generation. This includes using campaign related data to evaluate the success of specific ads and making budget related decisions  such as  which ads to boost.

Organizational Status
The position reports to the Marketing and Communications Manager and works with other staff, students, volunteers, and members of the university community to enhance and extend the profile of the Chan Centre at UBC, in Vancouver, across Canada and around the world.

Work Performed

  • Manages and evaluates the implementation of marketing, event promotion, and social media strategies and campaigns, including determining scheduling, developing and selecting materials, and adapting implementation plans and approaches as required

  • Executes Chan e-mail marketing strategy, including creating monthly e-mail campaigns and other targeted e-mail messaging by  developing, writing ,  and selecting marketing collateral and making decisions about timing, approaches, and implementation strategies

  • Develops and selects story ideas and writes a range of  original promotional and content copy for Chan Centre events and other promotional materials, selects and makes decisions on which story ideas and content to include in materials based on evaluation of recent campaign data and marketing best practices.

  • Develops, designs, and selects  marketing assets and collateral that align with Chan Centre’s brand identity. Determines appropriate medium for marketing assets, and is responsible for a range of original graphic design, images, and content for  videos, social videos,   and other related assets from ideation and development through creation and implementation

  • Manages social media accounts by designing and  implementing social media campaigns to increase brand awareness and drive engagement, audience growth, and directly contribute to marketing KPIs. This includes determining campaign schedules and timing, creating content and marketing collateral and deciding which materials to include in each campaign.

  • Evaluates engagement,  growth,  and impact of social media activities and adapts social media campaigns to reflect trends, best practices and techniques around social media.  Uses data to make campaign strategy related budget decisions such as which social media ads to boost.

  • Moderates interactions and direct public engagement on multiple digital platforms,  managing emergent time sensitive issues as they arise, and identifying and escalating complex issues as required.

  • Develops in depth knowledge of  emerging social media tools and determines how to best incorporate them into current marketing strategies in order to increase presence on existing platforms and grow the Chan’s social media influence on new social media platforms.

  • Creates digital content calendar for events, analyzing and leveraging data to inform schedule and content.

  • Cultivates a common look and feel for all communications materials, ensuring accuracy, professionalism, clarity, and consistency across the larger brand of the Chan Centre as well as its 4 streams of programming: Chan Presents, Chan EXP, Inspired at the Chan, and Chan Director’s Cut

  • Develops, creates, and manages content on the Chan Centre website.

  • Develops an in-depth understanding of current industry trends, developments, new techniques, as well as copyright and intellectual property regulations.

  • Assesses a range of marketing research, campaign,  and related data to determine audience satisfaction and communications preferences  and incorporates findings into the implementation  of future marketing campaigns and content creation

  • Creates and evaluates post-event marketing reports, incorporating findings into future campaign and marketing collateral design and implementation

  • Participates in the development, planning, and implementation of communications plans, programs, and special events.

  • Develops relationships with external stakeholders. In consultation with Manager, responds to media inquiries.


Consequence of Error/Judgement
Misrepresentation or inaccuracies of the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts and its events in materials, advertisements, media releases, etc. will negatively affect relations with patrons, stakeholders, donors, sponsors, clients, and artists and would jeopardize Chan Centre revenues, patron and stakeholder relations and the reputation of the Chan Centre and UBC. Poor interpersonal skills would result in poor relations with other staff, departments, and stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications
Diploma in Marketing. Minimum of one year of related experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

- Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one’s own

- Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing one’s own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in marketing, communications, arts management or related field preferred.

  • Demonstrated excellence in writing, editing and proofreading.

  • Knowledge of digital marketing including social media.

  • Analytical and results-oriented mindset with strong attention to detail.

  • A genuine interest in arts and culture.

  • Creative, enthusiastic and self-directed.

  • Superior organizational and time management skills.

  • Ability to work effectively independently and in a team environment.

  • Experience in Wordpress and MailChimp preferred.

  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with the media and public relations agencies.

  • Ability to select the most effective communication media for a situation.

  • Ability to effectively design and modify web sites.
