PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

As a key member of CPKC's Engineering team, the Manager of Testing and Commissioning (T&C) holds overall responsibility for leading the T&C team in Canada and/or the United States. This role ensures that all new or modified Signals & Communication (S&C) systems are thoroughly validated in compliance with CPKC standards, Transport Canada regulations, and US Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) requirements across the network. Verification results must meet expectations before the S&C systems are commissioned for service. The primary work location for this position can be based at the headquarters in Calgary, Alberta. 

 

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Monitor all projects within their scope from initiation to completion, ensuring seamless execution of testing and commissioning (T&C) activities at every stage
  • Provide detailed reviews, comments, and recommendations to the Signal Design Office for all construction deliverables, including compliance with Red Book requirements, design specifications, and commissioning plans to guarantee practicality and functionality
  • Coordinate verification and validation activities, including project phasing plan, schedule, resources and test team management within S&C Design, Construction and Project Controls
  • Work collaboratively with the S&C Design team to establish project scope, phasing plans, schedules, and budget estimations to ensure alignment with operational goals
  • Direct maintenance activities aligned with selective renewal plans for various track components, ensuring optimal performance and longevity of track infrastructure
  • Review new technology, and process improvements that could be implemented to facilitate improvements to S&C
  • Develop comprehensive reports and analyses on reviewed technologies, offering clear recommendations for implementation and required resources
  • Authorize and approve the placement of S&C systems into service following successful completion of testing activities and validation of test results

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ S&C construction, maintenance, or design experience
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a test lead or manager position
  • Understanding S&C related Transport Canada, Federal Railroad Administration regulations, American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association (AREMA) and S&C recommended practices
  • Demonstrates capability to understand and apply relevant track standards and practice circulars
  • Demonstrates the ability to work safely; has a clean safety/performance record

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

 

Medical and Drug Testing

This is a safety sensitive position and a successful pre-employment medical assessment including physical, vision, hearing, and a negative company drug test is required. Post hire qualification drug testing may also be required.

Management Conductor Program

Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
