PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

You will be a member of a team performing moderate to heavy physical labour building and maintaining the track and surrounding materials. Duties can include replacing and repairing various track components including rails, railway ties, fences and adjusting the alignment and the surface of the track as well as responding to emergencies and track outages. This role is a travelling position where your typical schedule will be 8 on/6 off, 7 on/7 off. You will travel across the territory, you will receive a rate premium, mileage, hotel accommodations, meal expenses, etc.

 

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Moderate to heavy physical labour on an assigned area of track. This position involves:
  • Pulling track spikes
  • Applying rail anchor
  • Shoveling crushed rock
  • Bending & lifting up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis
  • Repetitive tasks

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • A valid driver’s license; Class 4, Class 3, Class 3/Air, Class 2 and, Class 1/Air licenses would be considered an asset
  • Must be able to perform work that can be physically demanding
  • Work outdoors in all types of weather conditions for long periods of time
  • Work up to 12 hour shifts which include days, evenings, overnight, weekends and holidays
  • Strong communication skills (provide clear and concise instructions/directions including over radio)
  • Must be able to pass the required physical job tasks for the job position, written examinations, read and understand safety instructions, read and understand operating rules and regulations and other written or printed material in English

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

 

Medical and Drug Testing

This is a safety sensitive position and a successful pre-employment medical assessment including physical, vision, hearing, and a negative company drug test is required. Post hire qualification drug testing may also be required.
