Design the Solutions Behind Retail Success
As the IT Architect, Store Systems, you will design and maintain end-to-end architecture for store systems -including point-of-sale (POS), in-store mobility, kiosks, handhelds, loyalty, and retail execution tools – while defining integration patterns with enterprise platforms such as ERP, eCommerce, CDP, and WMS. You’ll assess emerging technologies, vendors, and platforms to enhance the in-store customer experience and streamline back-office operations. Led by the Development and Solutions Delivery Manager, this role is ideal for a strategic thinker and collaborative problem-solver with strong communication skills and a passion for retail innovation.
Ready to make an impact in a new role? Here’s how:
- Design, document, and maintain end-to-end solution architectures for retail systems, including POS, in-store mobility, kiosks, handheld devices, loyalty programs, and retail execution tools, ensuring seamless integration with enterprise systems.
- Lead the design of integration solutions for store systems, ensuring real-time, bidirectional data flow between POS, inventory management, loyalty systems, and back-office systems, leveraging centralized host environments.
- Proficiency in Microsoft technologies, including Dynamics 365 (Finance & Operations, Commerce, SCM) and Azure DevOps (for CI/CD, release management, and backlog tracking), Microsoft Fabric, Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, Power BI) to integrate and enhance store systems.
- Architect integration solutions utilizing RESTful APIs, message queues, and event-driven architectures for seamless communication between store systems and other enterprise platforms (ERP, WMS, CDP).
- Collaborate with business and technical stakeholders to ensure alignment on project charters, technical scopes of work, and deliverables, fostering cross-functional teamwork in the retail environment.
- Design systems to operate efficiently in hybrid environments, with both on-premise and cloud components, optimizing for performance, data integrity, and resilience.
- Stay current with architectural trends such as microservices, composable commerce, headless design, and edge computing in retail.
- Identify and support the integration of AI/ML capabilities in store systems to enhance customer engagement, operational insights, and automation, particularly in inventory management, personalized promotions, and real-time decision-making.
- Apply industry-leading security practices, such as RBAC (Role-Based Access Control) and encryption standards, to protect sensitive customer and business data across store systems and integrations.
We’re looking for:
- A Bachelors Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field. Azure Solutions Architect Expert or Dynamics 365 Architect certifications are an asset.
- Five to eight years of experience in IT architecture or solution design, including at least five years within retail technology environments.
- Proven experience designing and integrating enterprise solutions for:
- Merchandising systems
- Finance & Supply Chain platforms
- Store systems (POS, Loyalty, Inventory)
- eCommerce & Order Management systems
- Hands-on experience with Azure DevOps, Microsoft Fabric, Power Platform (Power Apps, Automate, BI).
- Expertise in store platform integration and data orchestration across in-store applications and centralized host systems.
- Experience designing high-availability systems in distributed store environments, ensuring reliable uptime for in-store systems such as POS and inventory management.
- Background in Agile and DevSecOps and infrastructure-as-code practices.
- Familiarity with MACH architectural principles and composable commerce ecosystems.
- Expertise in store platform integration and data orchestration across in-store applications and centralized Host systems.
- Strong grasp of modern integration technologies: REST APIs, Azure Service Bus, Logic Apps, ETL tools, etc.
- Demonstrated ability to produce Project Charters, technical documentation, architecture diagrams, and executive-level presentations.
- A working knowledge of AI/ML applications in retail (e.g., personalization, fraud detection, demand forecasting, and supply chain optimization).
- Familiarity with Progress Database and 4GL (Fourth-Generation Language) as an asset for legacy system POS integrations and data handling.
- The ability to be onsite three days a week at our corporate office in St. Jacobs, to accommodate our hybrid working model.
