The Opportunity:

We are looking for an Intermediate Geochemist to join our team. In this position, you would help lead and direct geochemistry assessment work, primarily in the Canadian mining and oil sands sector. The position is based in western Canada, with the option of you siting in one of our Vancouver, Calgary or Edmonton offices (location is flexible). You would be joining a team consisting of more than 30 other geochemists across Canada with an established reputation for delivering quality work.

The job will involve working with staff to complete large-scale projects, many of which will involve interactions with other disciplines. Work products will include water quality models, geochemical characterization reports, regulatory submissions and other similar deliverables, as well as responding to laboratory, field personnel and client inquires, questions and comments.

A day in the life:

  • You’ll be supporting on development of proposals, schedules and budgets related to the completion of geochemistry, water quality and environmental assessment projects
  • You’ll be working in project teams to develop and execute:
    • Project plans and assessment approaches
    • Model development, calibration, and validation
    • Technical reports, memorandums, presentations, and other project deliverables
  • You’ll be supporting and/or leading multiple projects within scope/budget/schedule expectations, with responsibility for models and other project deliverables meetings expectations for quality and technical excellence
  • You’ll be designing, planning, and overseeing field programs, that focus on understanding the geochemical characteristics of materials for mining clients and oil sands operators 
  • You’ll be managing, analyzing, and interpreting measured and modelled data, and providing technical review and quality control for data collection, management, and analysis
  • You’ll be working with multi-disciplinary project teams to integrate results of geochemical characterization programs into large scale environmental assessments, side-wide water quality models, geochemical conceptual models and acid-rock drainage/metal leaching management plans
  • You’ll be supervising, training, and mentoring junior staff to develop their skillsets including technical skills, project experience, and general consulting and decision-making skills
  • You’ll be actively promoting a culture of health and safety
  • You’ll be taking an active role in developing and maintaining client relationships 

 

What you'll bring to WSP ...

  • A university degree (M.Sc. or higher preferred) in Geochemistry
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience or equivalent
  • Proven experience in the field of geochemistry, with consulting experience an asset
  • Demonstrated experience in working with teams to deliver work products in a timely fashion, ideally within a consulting environment
  • Excellent technical writing and communication skills
  • Demonstrated project management and technical skills an asset
  • Knowledge of mining and oil sands related environmental practices 
  • Knowledge of environmental assessment processes and permitting requirements an asset
  • Ability to multi-task, maintain flexibility, and work independently
