The Compliance Advisor is responsible for performing ongoing monitoring of activities to ensure that areas are in compliance with policies, procedures and regulatory requirements. He works closely with the Senior Manager, Compliance to provide him with the analytical tools required for sector visits and assist in compliance matters and initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor day-to-day and periodic controls related to Regulatory Risk Management (RRM), Operational Risk Management (ORM) and Compliance.
  • Remotely validate the application of controls related to regulatory compliance and banking practices within the sector by performing a testing approach in its sector.
  • Document the findings and formulate recommendations that will be reported to the managers in relation to the controls assessed.
  • Provide support and advice to business units as part of the monitoring and validation activities or initiatives.
  • When necessary, ensure a follow-up with business units when correction plans are requested to correct gaps.
  • When necessary, collaborate in the development of action plans to correct systemic or major deficiencies affecting a sector.
  • Collaborate in the development and updating of tools necessary for the execution of tests or other compliance tools.
  • Work closely with the Senior Manager, Compliance to provide him with the findings of the validations and analysis carried out as well as to identify the support and training needs of the business units.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current legislation, policies, programs and procedures and be on the lookout for market trends.
  • Perform any other task of the same nature or of a general nature requested by his superior or required in the context of his duties.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant related discipline
  • 3 years of related experience in the banking sector, preferably in Business Service compliance
  • Knowledge of the different legal forms of businesses
  • In-depth knowledge of commercial products, including equipment leasing financing
  • Recognized certifications: Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS), Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP / C), an asset
  • French-English bilingualism* (spoken / written) essential
  • Excellent judgment, listening skills, interpersonal skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a changing environment and to work under pressure

*Professional working proficiency in French and English languages required as position involves frequent written and oral communication on complex matters with internal and external parties in both languages.
