What You Will Do
Reporting to the Foreperson, the Assistant Foreperson is responsible for supervising the work performed by hourly-rated employees in the Subway Track section involving the rehabilitation, maintenance, and construction of all subway track-related work as well as assisting the Foreperson in the co-ordination, planning and completion of track work. The incumbent is also responsible for supervising the work performed by external contractors. You will be ensuring that employees under your direct supervision are familiar and comply with the policies and practices of the TTC with regard to rules, regulations and safe working practices and are properly trained in all aspects of the work and in the operation of any new/modified equipment. Providing guidance, advice and on-the-job training for hourly-rated employees and investigating various injuries, accidents, incidents or other problems which may arise, and initiating corrective action or making recommendations.
You will be assisting the Foreperson with the monitoring and reporting of project status and advising of problems or delays. Ensuring that work plans and schedules prepared by the Supervisor or Superintendent are maintained and all work is completed in a safe manner, in accordance with the standard practices and procedures. You will also be assisting the Foreperson with administrative duties such as completion of the daily journal, timekeeping, record keeping, signing stock requisitions, purchase requisitions, vacation/bereavement requests, injury investigations, etc.
You will also be ensuring that rules and regulations in the union agreement, Commission and Departmental policies, and government legislation (human rights, labour relations, Occupational Health and Safety Act, etc.) are satisfied and applied fairly and consistently while also participating in TTC health and safety programs, administering first aid or CPR to employees or requesting further medical help through the Transit Control Centre if required.
As a TTC employee you are responsible for treating passengers and/or employees with respect and dignity and ensuring the needs of passengers or employees with disabilities are accommodated and/or addressed (if applicable and within their area of responsibility) in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders so that they can fully benefit from the TTC as a service provider and an employer and you will also be participating in the TTC Customer Service Ambassador Program.

What Qualifications Do You Bring?
- Your educational background in of Grade 12 (Technical program) in a related discipline or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent.
- A Community College Diploma in the field of Civil/Structural Engineering would be an asset.
- Supervisory experience in the transit/railroad area and/or related field would be an asset.
- Your application will demonstrate knowledge of track and road inspection, construction, maintenance and repair standards, procedures and practices.
- Your application will also demonstrate you have or ability to acquire working knowledge of relevant government legislation including the Occupational Health & Safety Act (Industrial and Construction) and other relevant regulations applicable to the work.
- You must possess working knowledge of computers and relevant computerized applications such as word processing, database and scheduling software is a strong asset.
- You must possess good mathematical, reading, writing and blueprint comprehension skills.
- You must possess sound judgement, organizational, interpersonal, and communications skills.
- You must possess a valid class “G” Province of Ontario Driver’s Licence.
- You may be required to use own automobile when inspecting work locations.
- Will be required to attend and successfully complete various supervisory, safety and technical training programs related to the section and Track Maintenance (e.g. Track Maintenance Training Program, New Supervisors Program, WHMIS, Subway/SRT Rulebook, etc.).
- Must have or quickly acquire a thorough knowledge of the Local 113 Collective Agreement, Seniority Regulations and Commission, Branch and Departmental policies, procedures and programs related to the work performed.
- Must acquire familiarity with the Track Section’s Maintenance of Way Information System (MOWIS).
- May be required to take the Training Department’s instruction to obtain a class DZ license and attain certification for the operation of various track maintenance equipment.
