The opportunity
The Advisor, Internal Communications will be responsible for working closely with internal stakeholders with their communication needs by developing effective and engaging content tailored for various internal channels to maximize reach and achieve objectives.
A strong, versatile writer, who will be a key contributor to developing internal communications strategies and implement plans and tools to support the company’s business strategies, promote its organizational culture, and increase employee engagement.
A resourceful and quick learner will thrive on the IESO team, and you’ll be supported by your communications colleagues and subject matter experts across the company who are willing to share their time, knowledge, and experience.
The role will be located at Adelaide (Toronto) with an expectation of time spent weekly at Clarkson (Mississauga).
What you'll do
- Design and execute communication plans, complete with measurement, that support the company’s overall business objectives and culture.
- Oversee the development and implementation of internal communication programs and initiatives, including newsletters, employee events, intranet content and campaigns.
- Identify any issues arising or likely to arise from within the Corporation. Recommend immediate, short and medium-term strategies, communication, actions and programs for addressing such issues with specific audiences.
- Ensure proactive, timely communications and monitoring of IESO initiatives that impact employees. Help ensure employee considerations are appropriately factored into the corporate decision-making processes.
- Source, select, organize, write, review and edit communications materials for the intranet. Ensure that all contents meet organizational standards.
- Help ensure the intranet (HUB) content strategy and supporting governance structure maintains the high quality of content and relevance within the site.
- Support the development of executive communications, including speeches, emails, and presentations.
- Develop metrics to measure the effectiveness of internal communication efforts and adjust plans accordingly.
- Build and enhance relationships with key internal stakeholders, ensuring a customer-centric and collaborative approach.
- Provide periodic, limited supervision over others designated to assist on certain projects/work programs.
- Perform other duties as required.
What you need to succeed
- A bachelors’ degree in journalism, communication or similar program from a recognized institution plus at least six to eight years of relevant experience.
- Versatile and flexible communicator, with experience and expertise in writing for traditional and digital platforms – familiar with Canadian Press Style.
- Proven ability to translate technical and/or specialized material and terminology into language that is appropriate for internal audiences.
- Requires experience in gathering, researching and preparing communications materials for internal audiences.
- Great interpersonal skills to maintain relationships with internal stakeholders.
- A demonstrated ability to excel in a fast-paced environment with ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines and manage competing priorities.
- Experience with development of strategic communications documents, including communication plans, memos, key messages, briefing notes, backgrounds and FAQs.

The IESO commenced Hybrid Work Model Program. The Model allows for remote working up to three days per week, based on business needs. When working in the office, you will be located in Toronto and Mississauga.
