JOB SUMMARY
The Supervisor, Accounts Payable and Accounting is a key member of the finance team, responsible for overseeing the accounts payable (AP) function and contributing to broader accounting activities. The Supervisor, Accounts Payable leads the AP team, ensuring accurate and timely invoice processing and payments, and maintaining strong internal controls and plays a crucial role in process improvement, reporting, and compliance.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Review and updates procedures with respect to the payments systems: JDE and Esker as required; act as subject matter expert on the payment modules
Review and ensures effective internal controls for AP processing and employee expense claims
Liaise with internal and external auditors and provide AP support as requested
Serve as the go-to person for AP systems (JDE and Esker), providing guidance and support to the team.
Design, implement, and maintain robust internal controls for AP processing and expense claims, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures.
Liaise with internal and external auditors, providing necessary AP documentation and support.
Oversee and verify weekly cheque and EDT payments, ensuring adherence to Hydro Ottawa policies.
Build and maintain positive relationships with vendors, addressing inquiries and resolving discrepancies promptly and professionally.
Prepare and post journal entries, reconcile accounts payable subledgers to general ledgers for Hydro Ottawa Holding Inc. and all of its subsidiaries and/or affiliates. and ensure compliance with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close procedures.
Review and audit employee expense claims, monitor outstanding P-card claims, follow up on missing or late claims, and ensure compliance with policies.
Prepare monthly reports, including cash flow and intercompany settlements, and analyze AP reports, dashboards, and KPIs to provide insights to management.
Lead, mentor, and train the AP team, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment. Provide regular feedback, coaching, and performance evaluations.
Research, analyze, recommend, and implement enhancements to AP processes, procedures, and policies to improve productivity, efficiency, accuracy, and internal controls.
Establish and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, including other finance managers, supervisors, and departments.
Communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, with internal and external stakeholders.
Other related duties as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Post-secondary degree in accounting, commerce or a related field
Professional accounting designation, CPA or actively pursuing CPA designation
Minimum 5 years of accounting experience; experience in Accounts Payable considered an asset
Strong computer skills, proficient in the use of office productivity and collaboration tools preferably Google Workspace
Experience using an Enterprise Resources Planning software (ERP) (example, JD Edwards Financials) and Accounts Payable software (example Esker) considered an asset
English language skills essential, both oral and written; Bilingualism (French/English) or other languages considered an asset
This is a management group opportunity and salary will be commensurate with qualifications.
