Located on the traditional, ancestral and unceded lands of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Peoples, the City of Vancouver is committed to Reconciliation.

More than 9,000 dedicated City staff members deliver municipal services and programs, offer amenities, and maintain facilities and infrastructure for residents, visitors, and businesses of Vancouver. We serve one of the most racially and linguistically diverse communities in Canada, with approximately 50 percent of residents belonging to a visible minority group or speaking a first language other than English. The city is also home to the largest Two-Spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, gender diverse, and queer (2SLGBTQ+) community in Western Canada.

Within our organization, the Human Resources and Equity Office teams provide foundational support to advance equity.

The Equity Office acts as an expertise hub and drives strategic change initiatives to shift the City’s internal structures and workplace culture in the direction of equity. We provide leadership, coordination, monitoring, and advisory support.

Working in close partnership with the Equity Office, the Human Resources team strives to provide equitable, accessible and inclusive work opportunities, and a safe, supportive and inclusive work environment for all employees to thrive. This includes training, programs, campaigns and resources.
