Agile Underwriting Solutions (Agile) has an exciting opportunity for a permanent, full-time Underwriting Trainee, Commercial. This is a hybrid position based in Surrey BC or Calgary AB office.
This role is ideal for someone early in their underwriting career who is eager to learn the art and science of risk selection while contributing to profitable growth and exceptional service. You'll gain hands-on technical training, real portfolio responsibility, and exposure to experienced underwriting leadership across Western Canada.
Expected Compensation: The expected hiring range for this role is $53,000 to $55,800 with a 37.5-hour work week. Your rate of pay will be determined based on your individual qualifications and experience while considering internal equity. Agile also offers a competitive annual short-term incentive program that enables employees to share in the rewards of the business and emphasizes the measures that are key to our success.

The Opportunity:
As an Underwriting Trainee, Commercial, you will progressively build underwriting expertise while developing strong broker relationships. This role combines technical training with practical experience, allowing you to support the full lifecycle of commercial property & casualty business while advancing toward greater underwriting independence.
In this role you will:
- Evaluate, select, negotiate, and price new business, renewals, and endorsements within assigned underwriting authority
- Partner closely with brokers to assess submissions and clarify coverage needs
- Apply sound risk management principles by analyzing exposures, controls, loss history, and financial information
- Learn and apply policy rating, pricing, and coverage construction
- Deliver high service standards while supporting end-to-end account servicing
- Review claims activity to inform underwriting decisions
- Develop a strong understanding of underwriting guidelines, market trends, and policy wording standards
- Collaborate with underwriting leadership and cross-functional partners on special projects and process improvements
Here's what you bring:
- Post-secondary degree or diploma (or equivalent experience) preferred
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a genuine curiosity for risk
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- Ability to manage priorities in a fast-paced, service-focused environment
