Being a Team Lead, Commercial Banking for the Edmonton West market at National Bank means assuming a senior strategic leadership role that extends well beyond sales execution. You lead, coach, and inspire a team of Commercial Account Managers, driving strong performance across business development, credit quality, operational risk, monitoring, and controls, while personally managing a senior portfolio of commercial clients.

Your ability to blend market growth leadership with disciplined risk management, operational rigor, and collaborative partnership will be key to your success and to the sustained performance of the market.

Your Role:

  • Lead and develop a team of account managers, fostering an engaging, high‑performance culture focused on achieving business objectives.
  • Drive talent development through personalized coaching, succession planning, and continuous skills enhancement.
  • Optimize sector efficiency, productivity, and profitability by defining and executing market growth and sales strategies.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to strengthen market positioning, maximize client impact, and increase the visibility of the Commercial Banking franchise.
  • Contribute to the development of the annual market business plan and ensure disciplined execution against established priorities and targets.
  • Manage a mid‑market commercial portfolio, balancing revenue growth, profitability, and prudent risk management.
  • Build and sustain long‑term client relationships through targeted acquisition, expansion, and retention initiatives.
  • Act as a senior ambassador of the Bank within the local business community, cultivating relationships with key partners and influencers.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, internal policies, and operating procedures.
  • Monitor market trends and competitive dynamics to ensure products and solutions remain relevant, differentiated, and aligned with evolving client needs.
  • Champion continuous improvement by promoting new ways of working, leveraging data and sales management tools, and encouraging adoption of innovative solutions.

Your Team:

Within the Commercial and Private Banking 1859 sector, you are part of a high‑performing team dedicated to supporting commercial clients. You collaborate closely with a broad ecosystem of internal experts to deliver integrated, value‑added solutions.

Reporting to senior Commercial Banking leadership, this position is based in Edmonton West. National Bank’s learning‑by‑doing culture and access to diverse expertise support your ongoing professional growth and leadership development.

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field with 10 years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree with 8 years of relevant experience
  • Extensive experience serving commercial clients, including complex financing structures and credit risk analysis
  • Proven leadership experience managing teams and driving sales performance through coaching
  • Strong ability to design and execute strategic market and business development plans
  • Demonstrated negotiation and influence skills
  • Proficiency in sales management and performance tracking tools (dashboards, KPIs, reporting)
  • Knowledge of Private Wealth Management is considered an asset
  • Strong leadership presence with the ability to set priorities, drive execution, and lead change
  • High level of autonomy, organizational discipline, and change management capability
