What you'll do
We are seeking a motivated and experienced Staff Scrum Master to join our team. The ideal candidate will have very strong experience as a Staff Scrum Master and will support fully remote teams working as a SAFe Agile Release Train (ART) with distributed team members globally.
This role involves working within TJX’s Global Buying Tools ART, supporting delivery of releases across all geos for our on-prem and cloud-based solutions, including, to name a few POEM, PO Manager, Buyers Toolkit, i Scan, Deal Data Administration and POCC.
The Staff Scrum Master will be responsible for educating and coaching their team(s) on Agile processes, driving continuous improvement initiatives, and ensuring the delivery of business value.
What you'll need
A Staff Scrum Master is the servant leader on an Agile team and is responsible for educating and coaching their team and the enterprise on Agile processes.
The Staff Scrum Master is also responsible for driving and leading continuous improvement initiatives within their team and therefore displays an advanced knowledge of SAFe, Kanban, Scrum and XP principles.
Supports impediment removals and fosters an environment that builds and supports a high performing team. Monitors team progress and communicate team progress to stakeholders.
Comfortable flexing in hybrid SAFe and waterfall delivery
Partners with the Product Owner and Product Manager to ensure the product backlog is continuously refined and work is prioritized and scheduled.
Accountable for delivering value to the business and stakeholders.
Understands the value of the definition of ready and definition of done
Supports the TJX Solution Delivery Process (SDP) while adhering to Compliance guidelines. A Staff Scrum Master typically has experience in at least 1 domain.
May be asked to mentor junior level Scrum Masters and may have up to 2 direct reports
Responsibilities
Supports team impediment removal and dependency tracking
Facilitates Agile team ceremonies e.g., daily standups, reviews, retrospectives
Ensures team agreements are in place and coaches adherence to SAFe/Agile practices
Drives iteration commitments and plan for delivering business value
Collaborates with other Scrum Masters across the ART as necessary, e.g., Scrum of Scrums
Coordinates with other teams as necessary, for example a Shared Services or DevOps team
Key Partner with the Product Owner to ensure product backlog items are refined, prioritized and scheduled
Supports estimating activities within the team
May support Release Planning
Responsible for facilitating capacity planning
Reviews metrics to measure team progress and is responsible for achieving baseline KPIs
Identifies areas for improvement
Validates time tracking
Tracks team objectives using appropriate Agile tools/applications
Protects team from external interference
Supports ART Readiness/Preparations
May provide Flow Board Management if supporting a Kanban team
Mentors less experienced Scrum Masters and offers training and guidance where necessary
May have up to 2 direct reports
Typically supports 1 or 2 teams
Consistently demonstrates the ability to manage moderately complex work through their teams
Influences work and process outside of the ART as needed
Must Have's
Strong number of years’ experience as a scrum master
Strong understanding of Agile methodologies and SAFe framework.
A mindset for continuous process improvement, driven by a focus on delivering value through efficiency with excellent planning, facilitation, coaching, and mentoring skills.
Ability to influence effectively with and without formal authority.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, knowing your audience.
Proven success working in a highly collaborative, matrix environment, with a track record of measurable business impact.
Experience working in hybrid scrum and waterfall environments.
Capability to demonstrate critical thinking and proven track record of positive change.
Solid understanding of agile methodology, scrum, SAFe, and agile tools (JIRA, Confluence)
Ability to work collaboratively with distributed team members.
Nice to Have's (potential to upskill)
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent engineering skillset, training, or technical work experience (required) Experience with Agile tools and applications
Certifications in Agile and Project Management (SAFe, PMI-ACP, PMP)
