Adecco is currently hiring a Senior Engineer, Bridge Rating for a full-time opportunity with a leading rail infrastructure organization. This role is ideal for a highly experienced structural or railway bridge engineer who enjoys technical leadership, complex structural analysis, and ensuring the safety and reliability of critical rail bridge infrastructure.

Responsibilities
Bridge Assessment
Act as a resident expert with highly specialized knowledge in structural analysis and bridge rating
Lead junior staff in the performance of their duties with training and guidance
Review proposals of projects to be awarded to external consultants
Monitor progress of work assigned to junior staff and projects granted to consultants
Review Assessment Reports produced by junior staff and consultant reports
Make recommendations on repair, strengthening, or replacement options
Maintain the record of the load carrying capacity of all bridges on the network
Provide support to regions during bridge related emergencies
Dimensional Loads
Approve proposals for the movement of over-sized and over-loaded shipments as requested by the Transportation Department
Review recommendations made by junior staff
Lead staff in the maintenance of the Heavy Axle Load Clearance Database
Bridge Testing
Maintain a record of bridges that could potentially benefit from field-testing, long-term monitoring or Ultrasonic Impact Treatment (UIT)
Review Bridge Testing Reports produced by the Bridge Testing group
Apply Live Load modification factors obtained through field testing where applicable
Make recommendations on repair, strengthening, or replacement options based on test results
Rolling Equipment
Evaluate locomotives and rolling equipment of various weights and dimensions for their demand on the bridge plant
Make recommendations related to operation of above equipment on specific subdivisions
Establish and advise regions on operating restrictions
Safety
Communicate company policy and goals to junior staff
Provide mentoring, recognition and feedback as required
Maintain training up to date in compliance with applicable laws and regulations
Ensure safety rules are followed at work sites
Requirements
Must be eligible to work and reside within Canada
Between 10 to 15 years of railway bridge engineering experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering and/or Licensed Professional Engineer
Master’s or PhD Degree in Civil Engineering*
Licensed Structural Engineer*
Designation as Railway Bridge Engineer
Valid driver’s license
*Any designation for these above would be considered as an asset

Ability to manage complex issues and work independently
Adeptness in communication, planning and problem solving
Capacity to influence decisions at higher management levels
Technical Skills/Knowledge
Specialized knowledge of railway bridge analysis, design & rating principles and procedures
Expert knowledge of railway bridge engineering and AREMA Guidelines
Familiarity with railway operating rules
Knowledge of engineering track standards
Comprehensive knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements
Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and structural analysis software such as SAP2000
Fluency in English is required. Proficiency in French*

Work Environment
Office-based role with standard working conditions
Regular work week Monday to Friday
Must be able to meet tight deadlines and manage pressure
Role requires strong attention to detail and technical accuracy
